kiwilove
There are some (a few) games that appear much the same - Spelunker is an example on the Atari 800/C64 that looks close enough - but on the Atari overscan is present. Dropzone is an example of perhaps the best that was done - and it's the hardware differences that make the Atari version stand out better than the C64. When Miner 2049er was converted to other hardware - it's original version - the Atari version was written for this hardware - when it's converted to other hardware - the colours are not the same - what accounts for the sprite difference? Was it because the pixels were different? Also the colour choice could not be identical. Each version probably needed to be tweaked for that hardware - that if it cannot be 100% identical or as close as - maybe it could be tweaked as best as it could be - if they had the time and inclination to do so. But a tight deadline would have ruled this out. On the Atari's - the best example for someone able to add more colour to the backgrounds - is probably Crownland - showing it can be done. I can imagine it was made possible by clever programming and also graphic design ingenuity - and to reproduce this - for other games like this - is not going to be easy.
