mattsoft
Hi all - I just picked up a used ST and the floppy drive (with wide rhombus shaped eject button) has a minor issue I'd like to resolve. The floppy drive's default position is as if there is a disk inserted. If I pushed the eject button (no floppy in drive), the button goes in for a few seconds, and then it pops back out as if a disk has been inserted. This doesn't affect the performance really, it's just to use the floppy drive, I have to push the eject button, then quickly insert the disk. Is there a guide on these drives that explains the spring/load mechanism so I can troubleshoot? I've looked around a bit can't find much. Thanks! zzip
I have a few drives that behave like this.. Age I guess. The drive mechanisms are similar to PC drives, so if you can't find an ST-specific guide, look for generic 3.5 drive guides.
Nebulon
That reminds me. I have a 1040 STe with a flakey internal disk drive. Can I just swap that drive out for a 720K PC drive?

mattsoft
Hmm, OK, I guess I should first try to identify the mech in this drive and then find a suitable match. I was hoping there would be a spring that needs replacing, or a screw that needs adjusting or something easy.
