Can 1MB ultimate be used as repair for bad memory?

Recommended Posts

The 320XL, not sure about Simius' other Ram plugin upgrades, has the option to override internal Ram (jumper setting).

Supposedly some types of Ram failure though can cause spurious output which would interfere with normal system operation.

Since the 130XE has two banks of 64K each you could criss-cross 2 resistors on the PCB so the 'extended' ram will be the base ram and the base ram will be the extended ram. I have to look up somewhere which resistors you have to criss-cross.

Installing the U1MB ram will disable the extended RAM. If the issues with RAM only occur in the currently extended RAM you could bypass the problems this way.

The chance though that more ram chips are unstable exists.

This sounds like it's worth trying either way... Would love to see which lines to jump

Ok look for a chip with the number: CO25953 on it.

Above that chip you'll find two resistors.

Desolder one side of each (same side, let's say the left side)

Now cross them.

So the left side of the 1st resistor is soldered to left connection point on the pcb where the 2nd resistor's left leg was soldered to.

And solder the left leg of the 2nd resistor to connection point on the pcb where the 1st resistors' left leg was soldered to.

Make sure you do not shortcircuit anything and all this is at your own risk!
