SignGuy81
Does your model also have a buffer chip 4050? If so check 5V on pin 1 of that chip.

SignGuy81
Check to see if you have voltage present on pin 3 of the TIA
New Horizon
Check to see if you have voltage present on pin 3 of the TIA Looks like there is around 4.5 V on that pin.

SignGuy81
can you swap out the cpu and tia?
New Horizon
can you swap out the cpu and tia? Sadly, I only have the TIA and RIOT chips desoldered from the old Atari Junior. I've been meaning to desolder the 6507 too. I've swapped the RIOT and TIA chips with the same results. SignGuy81
Also want to double check you are getting a solid screen right, with just some waviness in it? You aren't actually seeing any part of the game when you put in carts right? That is kinda the way I was taking it when you mentioned same as no cart. New Horizon
I swapped the TIA, which is the original TIA from the system. I don't get any sound or video output from that one at all. Just a black screen.

You aren't actually seeing any part of the game when you put in carts right? That is kinda the way I was taking it when you mentioned same as no cart. That's right. No parts of the game, just waviness or sometimes solid with weird noises like you would expect with no game inserted.
SignGuy81
Another thing I would look at closely is the pins on the cart connector, make sure none are bent or anything and it looks like they should make good contact and that they are clean. let me know if changing the TIA does anything
New Horizon
Perhaps tomorrow night I'll remove the 6507 from my old Atari JR and see if that makes a difference.

Before I swapped in the TIA from an old Atari JR, all I got was a black screen with no sound. The TIA from the JR is definitely a step closer. New Horizon
Going to have to hit the sheets here. It's 11:30pm. Thanks again for helping to troubleshoot the problem. I'll desolder the 6507 tomorrow night and see what happens.
SignGuy81
I would next swap the CPU when you get a chance to desolder it. Wish you had known goods of all 3 to swap with.

New Horizon
Well, I'll be. It's working. I de-soldered the 6507 from one of my non-working Atari JR's, popped it into the 4 switcher, and the first game I tried worked!!! Thanks for helping out and pointing me in the right direction. Composite mod looks pretty good, not as crisp as SVIDEO or RGB but the colours are nice and rich.
