Black Jack Picture Label Variation - Not Sears - Photos

I purchased a bag of games for $40 and found this cart. I don't see it listed on the rarity guide and am having trouble finding out much about it. I did find a thread on here from 2012 that mentions it being very rare but I was looking for some expert opinions.

How much is this cart worth? How rare is it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

A little info here. Not much.

Never Mind. It looks like you found this thread.

That's the thread I saw, but thanks for the response.

Someone on that thread mentioned they'd "trade heavily" for this cart and I'm curious what I could get for it. I'm not that into label variations.

It's rare indeed.

It was released in a gray box:

Nice find!

Very nice find! I know there are several folks out there trying to get this. Took me forever to find someone to purchase this from. If you aren't into variation collecting, I'm sure you'll have no interest in finding a home for this. Keep in mind that rarity doesn't always equate to big money. While it is rare, it still doesn't sell for a significant amount typically.

Mis type. I meant to say you'll have no problem finding a home for this.

$5-$20

I think $50-70 is a more realistic price.

I sold this one for $60 and had a last minute offer of $70 for it.

Despite not being too popular, it's super rare. Another collector told me he paid around $250 for it CIB.

Thanks everyone for all the input. It's greatly appreciated.

Are the 1986 re-releases valuable or just certain ones? I see them all the time...

Mainly just certain ones, although overall they're generally a little more rare than the older '81-'82 Atari Inc. releases. "Black Jack" (as the title was changed to, from "Blackjack") and Hangman are easily the high end of the rarity/value scale.

Some uncommon-to-rarish ones include Fun With Numbers, Flag Capture, Golf, Night Driver, and Concentration--oddly, of these examples, Flag Capture and Concentration turn up by far the most frequently yet also command the higher prices. '87 Pac-Man, with the alternate text end label (at least mine's an '87; forget if there are '85, '86 or '88 versions as well), also seems to be pretty tough to come by--I guess with Ms. Pac-Man sold at closeout prices, and Jr. Pac-Man having just been released, there was no reason to get Pac-Man? OTOH, not many people are looking for it, or would notice the difference enough to spot it in a lot. But it took me a while to find one.

Some of the odd variations like "Yellow Breakout," "Pole Positn," and "Raiders Lost Ark" are really overvalued IMO; you can find at least two or three of them listed on eBay at pretty much any given time, but people are always trying to get asinine sums of money for loose examples. OTOH collectors seek them out because they're weird, so I dunno--I just think they overpay. :P

But stuff like Air-Sea Battle, Canyon Bomber, Circus Atari, "Homerun" (instead of "Home Run"), Basketball*, or Space Invaders aren't anything to write home about.

(*Unless you find the version of Basketball with the alternate "'70s Box Font" end label like Air-Sea Battle, Space Invaders, and the aforementioned '87 Pac-Man have. I don't think it's very valuable [yet], but you'll really have to do some scouring to find it.)

Sidebar: At this juncture I'd like to reiterate that there are enough cart and label differences between these Atari Corp. carts and Atari Inc. carts that they truly constitute a separate series of label variation, rather than just being lumped into the generic catch-all "Atari picture label" category, as the [very outdated] AA Rarity Guide does. :)

I agree they are different series to be collected separately, perhaps matched with a Jr.

I have half a dozen of them, and do occasionally see them in the wild, but it's probably 50 to 1 vs. early 80's picture labels, for sure. Maybe more...
