Atari PAC-MAN Fan
Hey Guys! I have a Windows 98 PC that has a Sound Card. It's not a Creative Sound Blaster card, it's just a generic one with a game port, input, and output for speakers. When I look in the settings, I see the files for it but I can't hear anything. Is there a nob or something that I don't know about? Or do I really need a pair of speakers for the Sound to work? I think I can just barely hear something, but I don't know if it's just me or if it's actually working. zzip
You do need a pair of speakers. If still not working- make sure you have the right software, and if it's not plug-and-play card, you may need to adjust settings IRQ/Port. By Windows 98 era most hardware was plug and play, so hopefully you won't need to go there.
Atari PAC-MAN Fan
Alright. I'll let you know how it turns out.
7800fan
Pre-PnP era sound card needs to be set manually as implied above. Also you probably need to set autoexec.bet with the sound card parameters. It's been too long since I messed with the sound card.
mr_me
Usually if Windows has the speaker icon by the clock its recognised. You can check it in windows device manager; yellow exclamation marks means something is not setup. Like zzip said, if its output is not plugged into a speaker you wont hear anything. Some have an internal speaker output on the card so you can plug in the internal speaker. Edited June 10, 2017 by mr_me

Could I just plug another Internal pc speaker from another computer into the sound card?
mr_me
I don't think so. If you haven't yet tested this thing just plug some headphones into the line out.
