VectorGamer
Get Ready For Retro Arcade Action With Twitch’s ‘Starcade’ Marathon It may be San Diego Comic Con, but that won’t prevent Twitch from getting into the spirit of things and announcing a brand new Twitch marathon. At the SDCC panel today, Twitch announced a partnership with Shout! Factory to host a marathon of Starcade. If you don’t remember the show, Starcade was a classic game show where contestants competed in arcade video games. The show was in syndication from 1982 to 1984, and was considered a groundbreaking game show where contestants competed in classic arcade video games, such as Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Galaga and Centipede. Starcade aired on WTBS (now TBS) and, as the first of its kind, set the stage for future video game-themed TV series and served as a platform for introducing new arcade games to consumers. https://www.bleedingcool.com/2017/07/21/sdcc-even-twitch-gotten-starcade-marathon/
butterburp
Woohoo, looking forward to this! This show ROCKED, and Geoff Edwards (who was an avid gamer himself) was an awesome fit. I can still hear the maddeningly ear-wormy theme music in my head. The grand prize scores got ridiculously hard to beat in the last few episodes, almost no one won. Maybe they were over budget or something.

RangerG
The quality of the show was excellent. They digitized from the originals and they look so much better than the DVD I have from Ebay and all the YouTube videos of the episodes. Alpharius
MANY fond memories of this show. Man, the 80's and most of the 90's were good times in the Arcade...
VectorGamer
Someone posted on another forum that Starcade is now available on the Shout Factory streaming channel. I haven't fired it up yet to confirm.
Flojomojo
Someone posted on another forum that Starcade is now available on the Shout Factory streaming channel. I haven't fired it up yet to confirm. Doesn't look like it's live anymore, but there are some shows on there. That is JUST what I need in the background right now, thanks for the tip. https://www.twitch.tv/shoutfactorytv/videos/all edit: meh, looks like we missed it. I guess it's on YouTube, right? All the Starcade episodes were on G4TV's YouTube channel up until the beginning of this year. Every January when the college football season was over I would do a Starcade marathon and noticed this past January that they were gone. There are episodes on YouTube scattered here and there. AAA177
I have been watching episodes of Starcade, but I am trying to be conservative about it so as not to go through them too quickly. I've been watching through Apple TV, and the Shout app on that device. This is just a great show to watch. I was wondering, does anyone know if the plans for the Starcade revival (and I should say, I thought I read that Shout intends to bring this back somehow, maybe I'm wrong, I don't want to misinform) mean that it will use old arcade games, or something current? I personally think old arcade games like Asteroids/Swimmer/etc. could still be used, plus games from Nintendo, etc. Different formats may be needed. For instance, maybe someone plays for ten minutes Konami's Contra on NES and it's not points but the level you get to that determines who wins (show would be edited for broadcast, with a website/YouTube component showing the full video). Like someone said, oh the memories! Swimmer in particular is great for me...I used to play that at this one restaurant that had it. I just watched one episode that had Swimmer. Does anyone know if any former contestants are members here? I am so curious what happened to some of the cabinets that were won, what the experience was like on the show, etc. I had never heard of a game called Eyes, for instance...does the winner still have that one, as an example? I did some searching for contestants but haven't really come up with any (except for one person who, if I have the right individual, and who I was about to try and email, unfortunately passed away). Anyway, really enjoying this show. Hope it comes back.

He was on the Juno First episode where he lost in the finals. We used to kid him on the forum about that game - I think he still hates it. The other guy is Mylstar - not sure what episode he was on.
