lord or time
Hi guys and girls, I am trying to restore a 130xe that I had given to me - its issue was that it had had it OS rom removed so when powered on all i get is a dark red/maroon coloured screen... I purchased a replacement and fitted it in the the chip socket on the motherboard but still the same. The previous owner is now telling me that it used to have a flash rom in there and some resistors that they took out to reuse the the flash chip but they couldnt remember the arrangement so does anybody know whats going on here? +Nezgar
Do you see any places where said resistors or other components were removed? Can you post a clear picture of the motherboard?
Rybags
Most component locations should have a label making it easy to id anything that's taken out. Some vias are filled in at the factory but will generally have a flat purposeful look whereas if a component's been taken out it'll either leave a clear via or messy solder puddle. Schematics can be used as a reference to get values of missing stuff. Also note there's often capacitors with many ICs, usual purpose as noise suppression. If you have blatantly wrong looking areas on the board then it's probably easiest to take photos and put them up. Also note there's different revisions of the 130XE motherboard, major differences being early 16 chip and later 4 chip versions (RAM). 130xe.zip
lord or time
this is the board before the guy removed the osrom and resistors... i should add that by the time it reached me the osrom and ide interface had been removed. Xebec
Having just failed completely to repair bad XRAM on my 130XE, I'm really really impressed with people who are able to do soldering and wiring jobs like this..
Rybags
So does it still have the IDE and SIMM installed? The problem with this is it's a fairly complex and not common upgrade. And a single wire failing in the bird's nest is all that's needed to make a non-worker of it.
