Cousin Vinnie
Since there are so many damn good Homebrew games now... do you think it's possible that the top ten best games in the 7800 library are all either home brew/ re-releases/ prototypes and hacks, with none of the OG 59 making the cut??? Shawn
If it isn't it's very close. Only games from the retail set that have a chance in my personal top ten would be: Commando Ikari Warriors Fatal Run Alien Brigade Double Dragon Rampage Mario Bros. Donkey Kong Jr. Asteroids Centipede Although the argument might be made to include a couple of those in any top 10, when they are measured against the modern homebrews or some of the unreleased protos, even the best of the 7800 retail titles start falling off the list pretty quick. +sramirez2008
My 7800 top 10 still includes the following 5 originals: Asteroids Food Fight Commando Ikari Warriors Alien Brigade
edladdin
Me neither. At this point my top 10 still includes: Joust Centipede Food Fight Ballblazer Robotron 2084
+SabertoothRetro
My top 10 7800 games still includes some originals. These are DK Jr., Mario Bros., Food Fight, Joust and Robotron. Homebrews and hacks make up the other half, including Jr. Pac-Man, b*nQ, Donkey PK, Moon Cresta and Space Invaders.
Cousin Vinnie
Mine would be close to being all homebrews...but a couple og's would make my top ten mainly out of notalgia I think... Tower Toppler, Midnight Mutants, Ninja Golf, Alien Brigade, Basketbrawl all have a shot Edited August 18, 2017 by Cousin Vinnie
AtariLeaf
My top 10 list on the 7800 now begins with Super Circus Atariage. However some of my original favorites are Food Fight, Centipede, Asteroids, Robotron and Donkey Kong. Bob Decrecenzo games should have their own top 10 category on the 7800 because it's not fair to the other games
lucifershalo
Robotron, Joust and Food Fight are favorites but for the rest dont really care for original 7800 releases hurray for homebrews
DracIsBack
I still have a lot of original titles I enjoy (and play). The Homebrews are really filling out the library nicely. Currently loving Bentley Bear's Crystal Quest!
Jinks
Bbcq DkP Desert falcon Joust Kevins double dragon Papas double dragon(just to look at and think it is cool) Games like Rip off,AA2, scramble, etc quick pick up and plays are fun. Dungeon stalker Salvo Bullet festival (could be way cool when done)
accousticguitar
Centipede is the best game ever for Atari 7800 imo including homebrews. Food Fight is going to be in the top ten also.
+GoldenWheels
My top 3 is pretty well locked down and set as : Joust Robotron Galaga And that's going to be virtually impossible to crack by anything. But past that it's wide open. Heck, I'd pick Crazy Brix over most of the original library.
gambler172
Best of all is Moon Cresta

Jinks
Centipede is the best game ever for Atari 7800 imo including homebrews. Food Fight is going to be in the top ten also.I always destroy centipede for homebrews. That and Pp2 have lots of.. The homebrew trackball hack would be better anyways
DrSidneyZweibel
The original 11 are still pretty damn solid. Don't get me wrong the homebrew library is incredible. But these ones are still great: Joust Food Fight Robotron Xevious And Commando is great. Top 5, even including Homebrews.
+davidcalgary29
Everyone seems to be forgetting -- again -- Plutos in consideration as a 'classic' 7800 title. Am I the only one who plays this and Sirius? I know that they're protos, but they really show the potential of the 7800 to compete with '90s gaming trends. Those two are certainly the equal of the modern Homebrew efforts. Also can't leave Beefdrop off the list of stellar homebrews. It's my favourite port of Burgertime for any system.

Good points about Sirius and Plutos, a couple of overlooked gems for sure. Re: Burgertime, have you not played it for the Intellivision or TI-99/4A? Two of my favorite ports. Beef Drop is excellent, but has minor issues when it comes to how many baddies you can stack on something before dropping. As if you're not fully across when it drops. Either that or Peter Pepper's too fat. lol Still, love the game of course.
BydoEmpire
I haven't played enough homebrews to say for sure, but I can't imagine leaving Food Fight, Ms. Pac Man & Crossbow out of my top 10 7800 games.
Jinks
Bob's pac man is better so that takes that out. Someone mentioned the original DK...well Perrys DKPK takes that out as well.

I don't have an INTV or TI and have never played their ports. I actually haven't seen a TI 99 4/A anywhere since I played around on a friend's unit in 1984. They don't seem to have sold well at all in Alberta.

Sirius is technically impressive, but so damn hard.
Trebor
The same thing that significant impacts Plutos and Sirius for the worse is the same item that hurts Planet Smashers greatly...The lack of any background melody. Though the latter suffers from other issues too. Granted, "Nintendo port" sound grating would make matters worse; nevertheless, Plutos and Sirius are almost indisputably in need of being finished games - Commando style. Lynxpro
Centipede is the best game ever for Atari 7800 imo including homebrews. Food Fight is going to be in the top ten also. Centipede-TB, that is. Order it from AtariAge and get 2 Trak-Balls [either CX22 or CX80].
