Igor
Hello, I've joined this forum a while back but have mostly just been a reader and not a poster. Last weekend I took the time to repair and mod one of my Lynxes so thought it would be interesting for others if I shared my experience. It took me a whole day to do everything but the results were well worth it. I ended up re-capping the motherboard, fixing a broken speaker, replacing the cracked clear plastic screen cover and finally installing McWill's LED screen mod. The console feels like a brand new machine now and I'm very pleased with the results. I wrote up all of this on my blog as it is way too much information and commentary to put into a forum post (plus all the photos and a couple of videos). If people are interested, I am more than happy to share links to my blog covering this (I didn't want to just spam these as my first post here).
Michael David Morsette
By all means share! It is fun seeing what other people are doing!
RodLightning
I second that, don't leave us hanging. I have a broken Lynx II here on my to-do list and need some inspiration. Feel free to share any and all things Lynx.
Igor
Great! Glad to see people are interested. I split up my write up into five parts, here they are: Console Disassembly Re-capping the motherboard Speaker replacement Screen cover replacement McWill's LED screen installation At some point in the future I want to experiment with the CPU frequency hack as well. I also have a bunch of carts that have corroded contacts so looking at using something like DeoxIT on them. Any comments/feedback on my Lynx repair project are very welcome!

PapaFists
Thank you so much for the write-up! I'm in the middle of a McWill mod and I couldn't figure out how to test for 5v- I kept running power to the board through the battery connection but no luck. I tried reconnecting the ribbon and using the power button, but I don't remember getting any power that way ether. Does the power light come on when you do this? I really want to finish this mod but not until I'm sure I won't fry my new screen. My issue is that I went ahead and replaced the mofset before testing the voltage, then I had such a hard time replacing it (never did much surface mount) that I'm not sure I screwed it up. Thank for any advice you can give, and the awesome right-ups you put together!
PapaFists
Well, I just tested this again, doing as you explained in your blog and I got .5v for a moment, then the voltage dropped down to zero. This leads me to believe my mofset troubles are not over. I can ether try another mofset or put back the original. BTW, my Lynx worked fine before I started this process. Should have tested the voltage and left well enough alone
Igor
Sounds like your mosfet mod didn't go according to plan. Try to putting the original in to see what voltage you get. You really want it to be as close to 5V as possible.
PapaFists
Thanks for the reply- I just pulled it out today and messed with it again. Still nothing, just a flash of power then dead. I tried testing the mofset with a multimeter and it tested okay, but testing on the board- not sure if I can trust that though. Thanks for the suggestion- Since the old mofset worked, why not just put it back in? I'll give that a go before I send out an SOS for someone's services. PapaFists
All is well- not sparing my embarrassment and hopefully to help anyone else out there who might be making this simple mistake- A game cart must be inserted along with inserting the ribbon cable for the power button to get the unit to power on and check for voltage. Getting 4.85v. Time to get this damn mod done! Definitely will be utilizing your guide for the rest of this mod! Thanks again
Igor
Ah yes, the console won't power on without a game cart, doh! I've got a dead Lynx 1 here that I need to fix. Suspect it's the MOSFET too. Do you have a link to more information about the MOSFET replacement?
PapaFists
I was able to pick up the parts from cowdog360, and he has a lot of insight into the Lynx power system on this thread: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/254446-lynx-power-circuit-upgraderepair-better-than-5v-mod/?fromsearch=1 But for some reason the pictures are not loading. Still worth a read though.
