eightbit
I am currently looking for a nice Pentium II desktop (not tower, but a desktop that you would typically put a monitor on top of). It must have at least one ISA slot. AGP is not necessary at all....it can be straight PCI and ISA. A decent amount of memory (128MB or better) would also be required. And, it needs to be functional and really clean. Gateway, Compaq, HP, Packard Bell...whatever I have a really nice Gateway 2000 P1 machine that I have been happily using for DOS and earlier Windows games, but would also like to obtain a circa 1999-2001 Pentium II machine for some later more demanding titles. I really like the PII's, so not looking for a PIII or anything (yet) PM if you have something and maybe we can make a deal of some type. I have vintage computer stuff to trade or can buy it for a fair price.
Osgeld
I got a celeron 433 in a mustard yellow tower that smells of smoke and only has 1 pci and 1 ISA slot, everything else is integrated, that I wish I never picked up and is everything you DONT want lol Edited September 19, 2017 by Osgeld
+remowilliams
so not looking for a PIII or anything (yet) Get yourself a nice PIII setup now so you can a) save the trouble later and b) then play all the games
Tempest
PII's are going to be kind of hard to find because they were on the market for such a short time (about 2 years). Honestly I think you're better off going for a PIII, that's what I was using at that time (I was heavily into PC gaming at that point) and everything ran just fine. boxpressed
Most Intel 440BX mobos will take a Slot 1 PII or PIII (up to a certain speed). A Dell Optiplex GX1 may fit the bill for you. Get the larger desktop version (3 PCI, 3 ISA, one shared). I have used a 266MHz PII thru a 1GHz PIII on it.

Keatah
I believe maximum legacy can be had with a PIII. Anything after that and you'll be fighting compatibility problems. In terms of compatibility brackets there seem to be 4 major inflection points. 8086 - 80486 --- Pentium - Pentium III --- Pentium IV --- Core - i7-7700 For bonus points, put an SVN build of DosBox on your latest rig to help out running games that have speed issues. amiman99
I have AMD K6-2 400 Tower, built by me in the late 90s. I restored it few months ago, It has Win98. I have to check full specs if interested. I could gut it out and send it in pieces without the tower, just find an AT desktop case and put it back.
