2017 CTIUG TI Faire (with pictures)

It was on a whim... but we took the morning and drove down to the Faire in Chicago today. I wasn't even aware that it was happening today, but Lee Stewart reminded me via text, and we somehow managed to get freed up to spend a chunk of the day.

For those who don't know, we had a major change in life circumstances and we ended up relocating to Milwaukee, WI. Not important right now, but Buck and I haven't been on in quite a while because we have been relocating up here. Life is insane.

Anyway, it was a great day. Awesome to finally meet everyone face to face after a decade of friendship.

Below are some pictures of the Faire.

Walid demo'd a new game called "Intercept" which he showed off by having Buck and Caesar play in front of the room. Very cool game!

Later, he broke out his AWESOME 1980s Heathkit Robot and controlled it with his TI. This was a big hit with the Under-10 crowd!!! (and with me too... I was like a kid in an candy store) :)

Tursi demonstrated Dragon's Lair.... This thing is unreal. Again, the kids played it to test it out. :) It's nice having such eager participants on hand.

We saw demos by OLD CS1, Lee Stewart, Jim Fetzner, Berry Harmsen, and several others.

Jealous of Hal's hat.

Anyway, it was a great day. We took half a day away from unpacking boxes and sorting household items in our new place in Milwaukee and it was the refresher we needed.

Thanks to everyone who made the day special for Buck and myself... It was an excellent day!

You'll have to help me convince Walid to do a full release with manual and label. :D

Is there already a manual or label available or are they pending?

BTW -- Is this program an E/A5 or XB? Is the program complete? Were there copies given out at the Faire?

I have more questions... I'll just wait for a couple of answers first.

It's available on the Dev sub.

so Dragon's Lair- how did that work out? is it F18A/32k?

It's based on my video conversion code, so should run with a stock system. It will run from cartridge and it's my intent to not require 32k. It does use F18A's GPU to reduce flicker. Right now the challenge is getting the hardware up.

I will attempt to get a simple demo of the (working) title and drawbridge stage this month -- note that it will require 8MB ROM so current boards won't run it (although I think the 2MB cart can be hacked up to run it, but otherwise any emulator that supports 8MB on the current banking scheme should run it.)

It's XB only, with a special routine by Tursi to create the bitmap splash screen like I did with Panzer Strike. It does require memory expansion and a disk drive.

The manual and disk image are in the Development section. I don't plan on creating hard copy manuals or labels unfortunately, but if I know you well that won't stop you for creating them yourself!

Ah, my old stomping grounds :) What part of town did you move to?

Thanks for sharing all the pics!

We had to sort of rent sight-unseen when we moved up here. We are looking at a few places to buy right now.

We moved to the Hampton/Sherman area (Lincoln Park, McGovern Park).

I work in Germantown, and we are looking up in Kewascum and Campbellsport areas to buy, once our house in Tennessee sells. Also looking at Hartford and Slinger.

It was truly a joy to go to the CTIUG TI Faire last weekend. It was great meeting so many of you who make the community what it is and continues to be, and I thank those who coming from near or far made extra effort to attend. Special thanks to those who made this event happen - they don't just happen by themselves.

Looking forward to next year. And who knows, maybe I'll have something marginally interesting to present. Won't be nearly as interesting as what we saw this year. Can you believe the TI can do all this stuff?

Should be some decent housing closer to where you work if that's your intended settling spot. Keep an eye on the property taxes for the areas you want to buy, as they can vary depending on the county and town/village/city.

I do have to admit I completely forgot about the "Spaceballs" demo and was only a slightly disappointed Tursi had not converted this to the TI:

I actually woke up in the hospital after the first time I saw that... Stupid but true story. I hadn't eaten for 3 days... And then that triggered a seizure. I was too busy comparing my C code to my friend's assembly. I'm not susceptible to strobe seizures, but if you don't eat for 3 days... I guess you are susceptible to quite a bit more.

Fond memories!

Hmm this sounds like a perfect test for my 64MB memory expansion board for the TI... Did I understand properly that you need 8MB cartridge space for this? So 1024 pages of 8K at >6000, paged with writes to the cartridge area, capturing the 10 LSBs of address bus (excluding least significant bit A0 [or A15 according to TI])?
