7800fan
https://hackaday.com/2017/11/02/finally-a-big-screen-vectrex/ If 19" can be done, I guess anything is possible. If only I didn't get rid of my Ripoff arcade machine (bad power, bad board) I might have been able to use it like Vecrex arcade cab,
Keatah
I couldn't imagine little kids running around that thing!
ledzep
That guy, Arcade Jason, has another video where he shows off his Vectrex cabinet. I think he used a 23" monitor in it and it only has 1 controller and he has to open the coin slot door to access the Vectrex inside to swap carts but at least it's not potentially lethal, haahaha. If he could wire up a spare cart slot into the control panel (are those even available for the Vectrex?) and add a second analog joystick + buttons for 2-player games like Space War and Rip-Off, that would be a hell of a conversion! I wonder if there's a way to either make large overlays or have some sort of roll of printed plastic that had all the overlays on it and the player (if he felt like it) could roll through it until he got to the correct one for the games... that would be too irritating after a while. Aren't there like LCD displays that are clear unless you display an image on them, that might work for getting color onto something like that. adamchevy
I wish I could buy a new Vectrex Biggie console this year at family dollar with all games built in and overlays included. It could have a new 19” vector display and a full size arcade controller that tucks neatly away in the front.
SignGuy81
I really enjoyed reading the comments on that page going back and forth over what kills, voltage, current, and yes one person even said the resistance is what kills you, LOL. Funny thing was it was after someone mentioned the high voltage that someone said it is the current that kills. LOL, that may be correct but not something to say after someone correctly knows to stay away from high voltages(the force that will push current through you). Take a 12V Car battery for example, capable of many amps, but then imagine someone built a 12V battery capable of 1000 times the current. Is it any more dangerous to you? No, not a bit because there isn't enough force to push a deadly amount of current through your body, and in accordance with ohm's law you would have the exact same amount of current passing through you that was passing through you with the regular car battery, because both same voltages(12V) and same resistance each time. That argument keeps coming up all the time, and it is even in some text books as well because it is true the current flow kills, but to me the argument would be the same as saying the gun doesn't kill you the bullet does. They both do. I'm not gonna die if someone throws a bullet at me and I'm not going to die if someone fires a gun with blanks at me but you combine the two and you have a deadly combination. I know that this wasn't what the thread was about I just can't stand seeing someone smart enough to know to stay away from high voltage or to be cautious when around it then have some smarty tell them "no, it is the current that kills you" as if they shouldn't be concerned with high voltage. Tornadoboy
I've got most of the guts of a Battlezone I was working on minus the PCBs, someone gave me an extremely beaten up cab I was going to restore but I think I'm just going to take the monitor and build my own Vectrex cab, I've just got to chase down a Vectrex logic PCB.
