twh/f2
Howdy *.*! I wonder why Pirates! by Sid Meier has been never released on atari 8-bit. Even on the c64 the graphics are not superior and the killer-argument against a xl/xe version. I personally think, that Pirates! could be another good home-made conversion project. Within character-mode also the 5th color wouldn't be a problem. What do you think?!
svenski
I wonder if there is an atari version out there that just didn't make it to release stage.
Goochman
By the time Pirates was being made I dont think Sid Meiers company was doing anything for the 8bit line anymore
Jetboot Jack
AFAIK -- MPS did not develop Pirates for the 8bit. In my time at Microprose I talked to many people involved in software development in the mid 80's -- even to Sid himself (I felt VERy geeky) about this self same issue... Pirates, Acrojet and Gunship did not make it into production for the XL line, just the C64 as far as 8bit systems went... sTeVE
Buyatari
If you like pirates try 7 cities of gold. They made that for the Atari 8bit Adam
+davidcalgary29
Wasn't there a sequel to Seven Cities of Gold?

tyranthraxus
Pirates! is one of the all time great games but I think it came out around 1986. The Atari 8-bits were a dying breed at that stage while the 64s still had millions of users.
Shannon
Wasn't there a sequel to Seven Cities of Gold? I think so, but I've only seen it for the IBM PC and it may have been just a "deluxe" version with enhanced graphics.

The main difference I remember was that there did not seem to be a Inca capital (I loved capturing it in the 64 version) which was a negative for me. I also think there was more options for the type of gear you carried and different types of men (priests, etc.) Overall it was playable but lacking. +davidcalgary29
Actually, I was thinking of Heart of Africa (as mentioned by Shawn) -- the true sequel to Seven Cities -- and not the later IBM VGA update.
