mrkiwimike
Hello all, I have been a long time lurker and this is my first post :-( I purchased an Atari 1040 STE recently and it doesn’t boot. I get a white screen and the power light comes on and it never goes to the desktop, if I put a disk in the drive it does not start reading the disk. I would love to get this machine working as I have been looking for one of these for a long time. Thanks you for any help you guys can provide. +Zeptari
Bad power supply maybe. I had same results on my Mega ST years ago. I sold it not knowing the problem. The guy I sold it to fixed it.
krisu13
There can be a lot of things but most common ones for this behavior can be faulty floppy drive or oxidation on socketed chips.Disconnect floppy and try to boot. It usually takes longer to boot without floppy but might work.Carefully pull socketed chips and make sure that there is no excessive oxidation on chip legs and sockets. Do you get any bombs on the white screen?K.
David Hefner
Try unplugging the floppy drive and powering it on. Mine was having that same issue until I unplugged the drive, once I did that, I was able to get to the desktop. Stuck a Gotek floppy emulator in it, and it's good to go now.
