cleary71
Any help would be greatly appreciated. My Intellivision flickers with every game I have loaded. I took it apart looking for anything that might be loose and didn't find anything. I am not a hardware expert so I didn't monkey too much with the insides. I tried cleaning the cartridge slot with QD Contact Cleaner but that did nothing. Also used compressed air to give an overall cleaning. Thanks! mr_me
Test on a different television. Do the games otherwise play correctly? What I see so far doesn't look like graphics corruption. Looks like a display problem. Possibly an rf modulator issue or something before the rf modulator.
cleary71
Games play perfect. I will try it on another TV. Is replacing the rf modulator an easy fix?
+DZ-Jay
From the title, I assumed the Intellivision was on the top 25% of some list... Hehehe.
mr_me
Replacement rf modulators are cheap. I don't think they are difficult to replace if you don't mind soldering. Not sure if it's your problem. What kind of cable are you using to the tv? Edited January 1, 2018 by mr_me
cleary71
I am using a coaxial cable. I tried replacing that with the same results. I haven't yet replaced the male to female adapter since I only have one. I might try the rf modulator, though I have never soldered anything before. Gernot
definately it's a problem from the TV side, i have the same problem on my mothers flatscreen, while my old tube at home works fine (except that everything is blurred much more). on the analogue tube i would know where to screw to fix this problem, but on a flatscreen i have no idea, the signal is digital processed. often VCRs does showed the same issue especially on still images. i guess, no i'm pretty sure it's not the rf modulator, you can correct this on a tube tv with adjusting the "pillow distortion", (i'm not sure if that is properly translated), resp. the sharpness, i would have to try. if i rember right if i adjust the sharpness to high this happens, but i really would have to try (or the "size", either one it is) and further i have no idea where to adjust this on a modern tv. however i know that i can provoke this. and it starts to interest me, since i'm not the only one having this problem a solution would be welcome. the problem is known and a specialised tv repairsman should know how to fix it, thus we certainly find something about this issue in the web. otherwise i have to say i was surprised how sharp the intellivision is on the flatscreen tv, a bit distortion from the rf module as usual, but no blurring and right shifting as it's known from a tube. the display is almost as clear as emulated on a computer. +Lathe26
Try your console with other TVs (especially digital TVs). If the problem occurs there as well, then it is definitely the console. The RF modulator likely would need replacement in that case. If the problem only occurs with the one TV, then it is likely just the TV. If you have access to other Intellivisions, try them with the same TV and see if all of them show the same problem with this TV. If the problem only occurs with this one TV only when it connected to your specific Intellivision, it might be that the RF modulator is right on the edge of going bad and replacing it might fix the problem. HunterZero
If your TV has a fine tuning option for the analogue RF signal, try adjusting that to see if you can make the tearing go away. Sometimes auto tuning on modern TVs can not quite get the tuning right. Otherwise as mentioned above, try with another TV. - J

I have one working unit and another spare for parts that I will be putting up on ebay soon. Just finishing up with my Amiga stuff then INTV is next up, lots of games, books and overlays also.
