SignGuy81
Do you mean updated graphics of 2600 games on newer hardware, or updated graphics of the games but still play on the 2600?

Keatah
I dislike re-imagined VCS games on new & modern hardware. Keep it oldschool! EDIT: Forgot to mention that remakes for modern platforms really stunk up the place. That Pitfall Adventure thing flopped like a wet pancake. And those Gen2 Intellivision remakes were pretty bad too. And they all asked for like a million dollars on kickerstater. Edited December 31, 2017 by Keatah
Mido1976
SpiceWare .. thanx for the link...I will try to learn more what it means by Atari hack... SignGuy81 : as I don't have atari set ,I emulate it with stella , so I talk about any attempt to make them playable with newer more realistic graphics looking "with the same gameplay" ,on PC ,even if ,if necessary making them no longer being roms or emulated.... it just came to my imaginations ,how interesting playing those game on a little refined realistic looking . +Black_Tiger
If existing hacks aren't what you had in mind and you're interested in something that isn't "retro"/faked, you can try the 5200 and 7800 versions of 2600 games. They are still based around the technical limits of early 80's hardware.

Yeah but the pokey sound really sets it off. It just has borders around the river and a tank on the bridge. Other than that pretty much the same thing. fiddlepaddle
Problem is, whenever anyone tries to pretty it up on (more) modern hardware, they usually do something to screw up the basic gameplay. There have been many attempts to improve on some games (take Frogger, for example) by making them 3d or adding new movement options. But the original mechanics are really where the fun comes from. There are a few exceptions of well done enhancement, and it IS possible to do more today than when some of these games were created because of more memory or extra hardware, but in every case gameplay was carefully attended to, in my opinion. Some modern games can be very complex and beautiful visually, but I hate 'em. I've always been attracted to the intuitive gameplay that most 2600 gems provide precisely due to the systems limitations.
Mido1976
I just had another surprise 3d Retro River Raid I liked the idea ,though I would like it to be more faithful to the original atari game... Jinks
That game could have been good if it was not zoomed in as much so you could see the playfield. So for that reason it sucks as is unplayable.
