I found this weird class website that has an assignment to make a batari basic game.

It's extremely old if you look at the download links the teacher provides, but I found it interesting.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm always looking for code and sample codes. I will check out the .bas later to see their programming style.

My bet is that it isn't really good, this was before Random Terrain made Dim's and underscores common in code

We actually played one of the games (Copter Command) as a bonus game in the High Score Club last year. I had no idea where it came from until now.

@stargunner weird, I just wish I knew who this teacher was, and imagine being in that class with all the knowledge of batari basic. That would be awesome, you could shock all the other classmates, and the teacher I bet

I just wish I knew who this teacher was

Click Course at the top of the page and you'll see it's Prof. Ian Bogost. He used to be active here, user ibogost, and is coauthor of the book Racing The Beam (a platform study on the 2600).

Bogosts' curriculum included creative game programming in BASIC and then in Assembly to teach the concept of racing the beam to program an analog Television, just like the book explores; anyone who hasn't should check out Racing The Beam and his other books on Video Games and modern culture, they're all really interesting.

Bogost has also written some fantastic Atari games including a Levitation mind game with a biofeedback device.

This may sound creepy - but you could always look up his forum posting history.

I'm also pretty sure he's in the stella mailing list too...

Also... Send him an email!

My idea about reading his post history doesn't work...
