BillyHW
Which arcade game did you put the most money into? How much money do you think you sank into it? I definitely put the most money into Street Fighter II (including Champion Edition and Turbo). Just guessing, but I must have put about $400 into that game. Keatah
RoadBlasters, Assault, Gyruss, Blasteroids, in that order.

BigO
Pretty much any pinball machine that I was near if I happened to have a quarter. Didn't add up to much as I rarely had a quarter.

spacecadet
Tough one! I have a feeling the one I put the most money into was *not* actually my favorite, but a game that toed the line between being frustratingly difficult and fun, with novel technology that I found impressive and some kind of reward I thought I was working towards. I'm gonna say Dragon's Lair. Alternately, it could have been MACH 3, Vs. Tennis, Asteroids, Lunar Lander (which I played any time I saw it anywhere), Tempest, or Pac-Man just due to its ubiquity. Also, if we're not adjusting for inflation, then The Walking Dead has to be right up there! I must have spent about $50 on that game in one weekend a little while ago. Flojomojo
Probably Star Wars, or Spy Hunter. It was so very long ago. There's a reason I really liked home games, and was thrilled when they surpassed the arcade while retaining the same quick style of play. It was definitely before the age of "the clock is ticking but you can buy more time with money" (looking at you, Gauntlet) It certainly wasn't the "I hate you, I will spam you with tons of enemies and you must insert more coins to continue! No, wait, please don't walk away ..." (The Simpsons, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, just about any gun game) and it absolutely wasn't Dragon's "insert coin, bonk bonk bonk, you're dead, hope you liked the cartoon graphics" Lair. Free-to-play games that beg for money in exchange for Smurfberries almost seem like a good deal compared to some of the quarter-suckers from the past. So true. People get so bent out of shape over OPTIONAL micro transactions these days. But I remember the arcades when games were truly "pay to win"
zzip
It is hard to say because I had lots of favorites over time. If I had to guess though, I would say Vanguard. It was the closest arcade machine to my house at a laundromat we could walk to. Me and my friends were obsessed with beating it for awhile.
Flojomojo
So true. People get so bent out of shape over OPTIONAL micro transactions these days. But I remember the arcades when games were truly "pay to win" When buying home games, particularly arcade ports, I would think to myself, "hmmm this game is fifteen dollars. Would I play the arcade version sixty times? If yes (it was always yes), I'd buy it." Nowadays I'm more like, "hmmm is this game worth my time? If yes, then it's probably worth my money, too." Free to play isn't all bad, it just needs to be monetized respectfully. I think we're getting there.

K-Rod 13
I would have to go back to high school (yea, that long ago) to remember the arcade machines that would eat my lunch money. Grandma would give me 5 to 7 bucks, I would buy either 2 bean tostadas from Taco Bell OR a Hostess fruit pie and a small milk, and the rest of the money would go to: ***Donkey Kong---The pie factory would kill me in the later levels, had to get that high score! ***Tron---The light cycles portion alone would hook you to the point of eating no lunch just to have extra money. ***Ms. Pac-Man---Who didn't spend money on this one? All that money......and Grandma would wonder why I always came home starving for dinner?!
+wongojack
Good question, I honestly don't know. I had a strange stint where I was staying in a hotel for an extended period of time when I was probably 12 or 13. The hotel was connected to a mall and there was a Nintendo Vs machine that played Tennis. I played that a ton, first beating the beginner and then trying to beat the harder opponents. That machine probably got more of my actual quarters/tokens than any other just from that stint. A second might be something more recent. I put quite a few tokens in Stern's Tron pinball machine a few years ago. Maybe that's second.
NE146
Yeah if I'm honest it'd probably be Street Fighter 2. I was in college, on my own with my parents money, feeding quarters away... Which is way different than running to them as a 9 year old asking for a quarter to play Space Invaders in 1978 or something.
+DamonicFury
Which arcade game did you put the most money into? As a kid (in quarters down the slot) : Star Wars As an adult (in purchasing, upgrades, and repairs) : Star Wars
thetick1
Likely Spy Hunter or Out Run or Rampage.... I liked competing with friends or my brother to see who could get the highest score. Edited February 9, 2018 by thetick1

Foxsolo2000
Space Invaders then Mr Do. To a lesser extent Mortal Kombat and Time Crisis.
jericho_21
Probably Crystal Castles and Forgotten Worlds. But, I was pretty indiscriminate when it came to games in the arcades.

+Atari_Warlord
As a kid I only got about $1 a week for arcade games, as an adult the winner is definitely NBA Jam. Played it a bunch with my friends during lunch breaks.
