An Atari like joystick to use with Altirra?

Are there any good Atari CX40 like joysticks to use with Altirra?

Several years back, Legacy Engineering did a re-release of the original CX-40, but with USB guts so it worked on any PC without drivers. If you have original Atari controllers, I highly recommend the Stella-Daptor (http://www.2600-daptor.com/2600-daptor.htm).

I second the 2600dapter II. You can use real CX-40 joysticks, CX-30 paddles, driving controller and more. You can get two for $57 plus shipping. Actually, any USB joystick will work, but they don't feel like the CX-40.

I was looking at the D9 version:

Is that new? .. it looks like the final solution.

Has anyone here upgraded the PCB in their CX-40 joystick? I emailed Best Electronics and asked for a price quote for a couple PCB and inside handle to fix and repair and the response I got was pretty unproductive. I think they were saying they sold out of the inside handle and nothing about the PCB.

Is there any other source for a decent PCB or inside handles?

On another note I am looking into creating a customized CX-40 that will be Bluetooth enabled so I can use it with my Asus Zenpad 3S 10. I would also love to look into converting an analog joystick to also be Bluetooth capable. All I see are gamepads which can be used but for some space combat and flight games a real joystick would probably be much better. Besides I like building stuff.

Here is my simpit

Here is a custom stick for my left hand

And for the right hand (to be used for 6DOF sims)

If you're in the US, I'd recommend calling Best instead of using email. Yes, I know it's 2018, but it's a one-man shop and I've found it much easier to call him rather than using email. Because he does his own shipping as well as taking orders, his phone hours are limited (1:30 - 5:00 PST). Two years ago, I purchased the Gold PCB for my CX40 that came with my XEGS. I also have two other CX40s that I purchased from Best with the upgraded PCB. I've been happy with all of the joysticks. I don't know of anyone else producing upgraded PCBs for the CX40 besides Best. There are differing opinions on Best on Atari Age, but I've purchased from him four times in the last three years and I've been satisfied with every purchase. Just don't expect to receive an email with tracking information on your package. It's just like 1990s mail order with a website from the same time period. :)

I didn't need an inside handle so I can't comment on that. It's possible someone has an upgraded handle for sale on eBay, but I'd be concerned that it was overpriced.

That looks great. A pity I have two of the older ones already ;)

I fully recommend this solution. There are cheaper dual Atari to USB adapters on Amazon and EBay all the time but they usually don't support paddles (and don't work on Macs).

I use the old atariage Stella-daptor and 2600-daptor all the time as some games just don't feel right without a joystick.

There are print files for the inner handle on Thingiverse. You'd probably have to print them in Nylon to get them durable enough, I doubt normal filament would be tough enough, but if you have access to a printer and Best sells you the PCB it's certainly worth a try. I have one or two broken CX-40s in my basement but never cared enough to try fixing them as I like other sticks better.
