Select all the different memory configurations for machines you own (multiple

selections possible). Include any plug-and-play devices used to boost

memory too.

I've probably missed a few esoteric upgrades. If you don't see yours, just pick

the next lower amount on the list.

I know there are upgrades far above 1088K, but memory above 1088K is

pretty meaningless at this point -- other than bragging rights.

If you have something that isn't mentioned and you want to talk (or brag)

about it, go ahead and post. You can also post about your specific memory

upgrade type if you like (i.e. Rambo 256K, etc.).

More than one computer like many. Only covering nonstandard configs here.

. 800XL has the Ultimate 1 Meg as well as VBXE so essentially it's 1.5 Meg not that much/any software would use all that as a Ramdisk or workspace.

. 600XL has the 4464 replacements bringing it to 64K internal. But I've got a Ram 320XL that can also be plugged in.

. my 400 was modded to 48K though I suspect probably in a 64K config with the remaining 16K unavailable.

Missing 52K for 400/800s having RAM at $C000 (e.g. using tf_hhs new 400 RAM card).

Understand Antonia 4MB was not covered deliberately.

Veronika could be considered a RAM upgrade (+64K) as well (actually wondering now if it would work on a non-expanded 400 or 600XL...).

Yeah, I thought there was one of 52K.

This is more of a general survey than something comprehensive.

The idea is to get a general lay of the land. 52K sitting just 4K

above 48K, it's good enough to just let those upgrades fall one

spot back.

Thanks for the reminder though.

Most of my Atari's do have 64K and 128K. I prefer external solutions, so I use the Turbo Freezer 2011 as an excellent XE compatible ram expansion. It gives me a fabulous, battery backupped, 576K Atari 8bit. I find an Atari with IDE+ with Turbo Freezer 2011 a very nice setup. I also love the 'el cheapo' memory expansion created by Matthias Reichl (I upgraded 2 of my xl's with that one) and of course the Ultimate 1MB... of course with the FJC alternate BIOS (what else?) and with SIDE2. Very nice configuration too. Very nice!

I use the extra ram mainly for coding purpose. It's handy to have a fast ramdisk. And to be able to play games and watch demo's that need the extra ram.

It's great!

I prefer external solutions too. I currently just have stock machines (130XE, 800XL, & 400), but I used to have a RAM320XL,

which I really liked a lot. I would like to get one again and I'd also like a TFreezer at some point when they're in production

again. If Lotharek were smart, he'd add an external memory upgrade to his arsenal. ;)

What are you using for DOS and RAMDisk?

What are you using for DOS and RAMDisk?

In the past I used SpartaDos 3.3a the most. That was the only version of a seriously usable SpartaDos disk version that did not have the built in High Speed SIO routine/vector so it was compatible with MyBIOS (MyIDE). I also used 3.2g a lot on my BlackBox setup. The ramdisk driver back in those days was called Ramjet if I remember correctly.

The last years I use SpartaDOS X a lot. In the Freezer it is amazing that I can 'emulate' a real SDX cart, so I can also attach another cart in the Atari (like a coding cart). Amazing stuff.

And my other favorite DOS is XDOS written by Stefan Dorndorf. Unfortunately it does not support large partitions and directories yet, but except for that it is an amazing DOS. For coding I use XDOS. For everything else SDX.

XDOS is the perfect replacement for anything designed with Atari DOS 2.x in mind. Have yet to come across an incompatibility problem and it's BATch processor has just enough features to keep it simple but useful at the same time.

RamJet was done by John K. Picken. I remember the difficulties I had to receive the UUEncoded file on my BBS back then, which doesn't support the backslash character. Speaking of J.K.P, It's been way too long I heard anything from him. I fear for the worst.

My Atari 8-bit systems are as follows..

My original 80's stock 64Kb 800XL and 128K 130XE are stored away along with my 1050.

65XE with 320Kb, 32-in-1 OS, VBXE, SIO2PC ..stored away
600XL with U1Mb, VBXE, stereo POKEY, Uswitch .. about to become my daily machine along with an Ultimate cartridge.
800XL with 512Kb SRAM ..stored away
600XL with 512Kb SRAM ..stored away

I have two more working stock 65XEs (the type with unpopulated 130XE boards) and three more working stock 800XLs stored away. There's also another faulty 65XE that I haven't had chance to look into.

My votes were 64Kb, 320Kb, 512Kb, 1024Kb once.

Can I vote 4x for 576k RAM ?!? Somehow we must beat those 1088k Atari owners, heck the poll shows even more 1088k owners than 64k owners...

Ahah! :) I kinda figured that attitude would show up and

even be the underlying reason for such a poll in the first

place. Rumor has it that ramdisks are useless above x

size and not much is done with them anyway. And x varies

according to non ramdisk user in the first place. And not

much is done with them anyway. Did I mention that not much

is done with them anyway?

People can say similar as much as they want, but without a

full meg available to me, my hands are tied behind my

back. Like typing with the nose, it's not happening here.

Give me meg or give me death.
