Homerun

I got out my box of Atari 2600 game manuals. I found one for Homerun. Looked it up on AtariMania, and sure enough in 1988, Atari changed the name of Home Run to Homerun. But why? Home run is two words, not one. Or perhaps I am just extremely bored and found the difference to be interesting. Your thoughts?

Spelling bothers me too. It’s best, really, to let it go.

 

I was just saying a similar thing about Lady Bug & ladybug,

and the game has the Egg Plant level, and that is also eggplant.

Strange?

 

It seems at some point where both spellings are used so often,

they consider both ways correct or one way an informal use.

The mystery continues. In the red Atari catalog, it is spelled as one word, but that was way before 1988. Typo? Or not?

Late-'80s Atari Corp. reprints are famous for their misspellings, typos, print errors, and other anomalies.

 

As for the old Atari Inc. catalog, it's probably a typo.

I had that old catalog when I was a kid, but never actually bought the game until 1988, so I was none the wiser.... I never knew it was 2 words until I came across this site!

Interesting that it's trademarked in the manual, maybe that's why they made it one word? I don't think they could trademark home run as two words since it would be like trying to trademark the word touchdown.
