Flojomojo
There are probably others, but these come to mind Pitfall II Donkey Kong DK Jr DK3 Congo Bongo Donkey Kong Country (series) Monkeyshines (Odyssey 2) Super Monkey Ball Ape Escape I wish I liked Congo Bongo more, but it kinda sucks. I choose that as worst. Best? I pick the original Donkey Kong, honorable mention to DK94 on GameBoy.
BassGuitari
When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it was a Ranger03 post. Best: Donkey Kong Jr. Toki Monkeyshines Zelda: Link's Awakening (yes, there's a monkey in it) Worst: Congo Bongo Donkey Kong (Intellivision) Bio Force Ape Congo: Lost City Of Zinj (It's really not that bad a game; I just can't separate it in my mind from the terrible movie it was based on.)
Video
I'd that supposed to be a monkey in pitfall 2? Cool, didn't know that (probably says in the manual which I've never seen, and it's a pretty self explanatory game so I never bothered looking it up) Best, dk94 for dmg, especially on super gameboy. I also love the super mokeyball games. Not sure on worst, as I typically put in so little time on had games that I forget them LOL.
Osgeld
I like congo bongo, but its far from the best, and I really don't like Donkey Kong, never did so that's my worst, I really enjoy JR so I am picking that (hated ape escape and never played monkey ball)
+frankodragon
Beauty and the Beast for IntelliVision seems to have a half-monkey , half-human but probably would be disqualified as full ape. Maybe it was done that way to avoid a lawsuit. There's also Kiki the monkey in A Link to the Past and Crossbow for the Atari systems also have monkeys in it. dj_convoy
Yeah... Congo Bongo is pretty meh.
Eltigro
You can shoot monkeys in Safari Hunt for the SMS. It's a light gun game that I enjoy more than Duck Hunt. Strider has that mechanical gorilla boss. Great looking game, but I hate the controls. Alex Kidd looks like a monkey... There's some monkey enemies in Legendary Axe... they're in hidden pits on level 4 with armadillos... Samba de Amigo features a monkey... never played it though. Rampage has George. Aladdin games have Abu, I believe... Lion King has Rafiki...
mbd30
Best: Donkey Kong Country Worst: Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong (Intellivision), Donkey Kong Jr. (Atari 2600)
Swami
I found out today that Grover's Music Maker originally had a monkey in it instead of Grover. Does that count?
Flojomojo
Horrible Hank from Intellivision's Beauty & The Beast is a person, a muscular savage like Wreck-It Ralph. Quickclaw from Pitfall II is a cat. ? Amidar's monkey is a good call, I forgot about that. I think Amidar means Gorilla in Japanese. ? I totally forgot about Toki, he counts. There have got to be other Kong type games. Thanks Etigro for the reminder about Rampage. Why does the industry keep propping up such a dull game? Is it that popular, or is it popular because it gets re-released all the time?
GameGirl420
Of course DK is the greatest game that features a monkey in it. I actually like Congo Bongo... the arcade and 5200 versions are cool platformers imo. Crazy Kong and Jungle Hunt are other good games with monkeys.
Andromeda Stardust
My vote goes to donkey kong 1981 arcade. Best port, tep's dk pokey 7800. Runner up, Toki, 1989 arcade. Best port, atari lynx. Worst ape game, Toki going ape spit, genesis. Okay maybe not that bad, but the level design sucked, like a bad rom hack of the arcade.
Eltigro
If you're looking more for King Kong type characters... there's some in Primal Rage... and in King of the Monsters for Neo Geo....
+save2600
Sky Skipper kinda sorta sucks. Funny how the "dangerous gorilla" looks more like a squirrel about the throw a nut too.
Andromeda Stardust
Sky Skipper kinda sorta sucks. Funny how the antagonist isn't even depicted on the front of the box. 813FE401-9EAF-4919-93D4-AAB82BE6ABD2.jpeg E13032B5-6FF6-446B-97ED-6AF2367893F6.png dont tell me that. I was gonna buy it for switch and find out the hard way... EDIT: Nevermind, you were talking about the atari port!
GameGirl420
For me personally the best one is Kangaroo!!!!! Actually I like the 5200 version better than the arcade.
+save2600
...I had to do a triple take at Sky Skipper's box. Thought that was a squirrel under the plane.
ed1475
My vote for best is Evolution for the Colecovision, Apple Ii, C64, and PC booter. In one stage, you get to play as a gorilla throwing coconuts at monkeys to protect your supply of oranges. Can't beat that!

+frankodragon
There's also Circus Charlie. It does have monkeys/apes in it but I suck at the game and I never got far.
youxia
When I saw the title of this thread, I assumed it was a Ranger03 post. I get this quite often these days Regarding the OP, seems it's time for one of those smarmy "So it's been X posts already and nobody mentioned Y?" kinda replies. Behold: So it's been 20 posts and nobody mentioned Secret Of The Monkey Island?
carlsson
There have got to be other Kong type games. In particular on the home computer side, there are dozens of Donkey Kong clones, most pretty awful. The cover art usually is more satisfying to look at than playing the game. ed1475 mentioned Evolution. There also was The Human Race for the C64 which starts with an ape stage. Perhaps it is a good idea to do what we're currently doing, inventory all games for apes and monkeys, and later on determine which ones are playable and garbage?
Jason123
Rampage and the ridiculous Donkey Kong 3. Donkey Kong 3 is horrific and WAY too easy. It also has nothing to do with Donkey Kong or Donkey Kong jr.
PlaysWithWolves
Mario Kart 64 wins by a length for me. Donkey Kong 64 was one my wife enjoyed quite a bit.
