knee surgery- NES and SNES game recommendations?

Recommended Posts

I know there's threads already out there like this, but i was curious what games folks have played recently.

I am going to find myself couch-bound for a few days next week after a knee surgery, so i was wondering what NES and SNES games have you guys/gals played recently that you recommend?

We all know the popular/well-known titles, but I was looking for some slightly lesser-known ones. 'B Games', if you will, stuff like 'Totally Rad' or 'Phalanx' or 'Bill Laimbeer's Combat Basketball'.

Any genre is cool!

Thanks in advance :)

oh cool! i've played the original Sunsoft one, but never the sequel :) noted!

Let me know what you think of it. Ive played the other one too and I think Revenge is better. Graphically its one of the most impressive NES games. The sprites are easily twice the size and there is tons of parallax scrolling.

NES - Pinball Quest, Death Race, Deadly Towers, Faxanadu, Bug's Bunny Birthday Blowout, or Arkanoid.

SNES - Breath of Fire!, Cool World for the music and graphics...Addams Family games are hard but cool to look at...Maybe a bit of Dragon's Lair for something different...King of Dragons or Legend maybe...Of course you already know Castlevania, Zelda, Metroid, etc. I'm sure...Hmmm...For a nice relaxing game of ambient pinball, try Super Pinball Behind the Mask...

Oh, here we go!

My Best recommendation is Jaki Crush for the Super Famicom! A sequel to Devi's Crush Pinball. It is an All Time favorite for SNES/SFC!

Vice Project Doom - It's like an easier Ninja Gaiden with driving and first person shooting stages mixed in with the action platforming stages. The graphics and music are great as well.

Isolated Warrior - Unique isometric shooter/platformer. Sort of like Zaxxon crossed with Contra.

For the NES, if you have a Zapper and a CRT TV, give Freedom Force and Mechanized Attack a try. I've always felt they captured the late 80's / early 90's light gun experience better than any home console light gun games until the PlayStation came along, and they were thoughtfully designed with a single shot light gun in mind so they won't wear out your trigger finger after 5 minutes like Operation Wolf. :)

Speaking of zapper games, I had a good time beating Operation Wolf recently, but I played it with the gamepad.

If you play it with the pad, be sure to set the crosshair speed to slowest.

Bayou Billy I think, too, had Zapper-levels.

Yep. Underrated game, too. It's a pretty cool game if you don't mind a challenge. It's definitely beatable but it will probably take the average player about a week or two.

Dig Dug II, my man! Legit one of my favorites. :)

Are we talking Everdrives and every game ever? Little Samson is pretty legit; a really fun game somewhat in the Wonder Boy vein. It's hyped because of the ridiculous cost, but I was surprised how good it actually was. Mr Gimmick also calls into this category; stupidly expensive in real life, but certainly fun and well crafted.

One you don't have to have an Everdrive for; the Guardian Legend. Made by one of my fav developers, Compile, it's a space shooter that has RPG elements a la Zelda. Very good, underrated game.

when you say 'dig dug', you're speaking my language! ;) Basically yes, though, pretty much any game i can find.

oooh Guardian Legend- that's one I haven't thought about in a long time.

I was playing Little Nemo last week, that one is surprisingly a lot harder than i remember.

Deadly Towers? GoldLeader... are you trying to damage digdugnate's mind?

NES... how about Crystalis?

Not Everyone hates Deadly Towers haha...I personally Love it! I threw it into the list in case he hasn't tried it. Who knows? He might be like me, and it just clicks for him...But I will say, I've never beaten it, because I play it for fun...I don't get too mad if I don't conquer every game...

(I knew someone would call me out on that one haaa)

ooh, i have Faxanadu. Those are some neat choices :) I remember playing Addams Family, I think, back in the day.

Jaki Crush- I'll check these out!

I'd love to hear what ya think of Jaki Crush! Also I just realized I misspelled Devil's Crush as Devi's Crush  ...I was trying to think of games a bit off the beaten path for sure...

I like a lot of the other suggestions too...Some of them I need to try myself.

If you try Cool World, I'd suggest reading the instructions first...(It still won't make much sense, But I've always loved the music to that game! And the graphics can be kind of neato too (If ya liked the movie))

Bomberman games with the wife also sounds pretty fun!
