TheCurlyBard
So at some point I'm assuming that all of has had to open their Coleco, and probably opted for the force method. It's a pretty stressful affair, but was wondering how often people have actually snapped their front panel? And if so, where? Has anybody ever attempted to reproduce the metal sticker across the front? If I could get a new one for cheap, I'd consider buying one, but I don't really know where to look for a machine that would be capable at making such a thing. Ikrananka
I've opened quite a few using the force method and have never broken anything. It's surprisingly robust all things considered. In fact, the force method was the officially recommended way for ColecoVisions to be disassembled (Ref: ColecoVision Technical Manual): "To remove top housing, carefully pull out and up in front, then do the same for the back, do this back and forth, firmly, until the top housing pops off. At this point do not tamper with the front housing. There is never a need for it to be removed." TheCurlyBard
I didn't know it was the recommended method! I should probably read that manual
Hannacek
I have only used the force method, and never had a problem. You can get a flat head screwdriver and pry under the front panel if needed. Even if you scratch the plastic, no one will ever see it because it is on the bottom and under the lip of the front panel.

Nice, it's reassuring to know they can stand a screwdrivering. Would be devasted to snap it. So looking forward to getting it back on
