How to tell the difference? And best way to repair?

How does ones tell the difference between an original Nintendo 72 pin connector and the new third party 72 pin connectors? Any tricks or special marking to look for? And what is the best way to refurbish an original 72 pin connector? Boiling or straightening the 72 pins? Not sure which is best? Researching seems 50/50. Would like to hear from people that tried both ways and what works best for them? Thanks in advance for any help with this!

I can't remember right off hand how to tell the difference, but I know that most of the 3rd party connectors I don't believe have the proper coating on the contacts, so even though they works well enough, they will corrode faster over time than the originals.

I've tried to reform the pins and the boiling method and neither really worked very well for me. In the end I just purchased a Blinking Light Win and called it a day...

Thanks for the input. I've got some that have a number on them somewhere and one that doesn't. Does that mean anything? Thanks!

Original pins have a star shaped circle on the corner of them.

Best way to repair is to replace in my opinion. You can boil and bake but at the end of the day it will just wear out again.

It is more important to clean the boards pins and disable the lock-out.
