Tanooki
Did you still not mind the price of Prime going up last year because you're a game player and loved that 20% off on most preorders? Best Buy kills the benefit, Amazon had no reason to continue it either it appears. Guess what? It's dead in 8 days. They're replacing it with their old system of fewer games, $10 discount credit (up to 35 days later) and only lasts for 60days and then they erase it. Oh and that $10 is the ideal maximum allowed, doesn't mean they won't do a $2, $5 or whatever instead. https://www.amazon.com/b?tag=cheapassgam08-20&node=17911060011 If we didn't use that free shipping option of theirs or the amazon video and music I'd cancel, still tempted to. I'd have to see if anyone else here would mind. And with that I'm now going to be buying less new games, or at the least, weeks/months later when they'll cost me what the prime discount did at the least. Only way to vote is to give them less money.
Flojomojo
Mighty decent of them to stop the discount before it completely demolished GameStop.
+thanatos
Prime bill gets paid for by the wife (because I knew she will always forget to cancel even if they change something that annoys her) Yeah, so technically I'm still paying, but it annoys me less. cybercylon
Gamestop put an end to one of their reward tiers.... mind you, it was't worth it unless you happened to be ordering a lot of pre-owned stuff on-line.
Flojomojo
In other Amazon Prime news, Twitch Prime (free with Amazon Prime) will no longer be ad-free. https://blog.twitch.tv/changes-to-twitch-prime-a986f0d8c9a9 I don't really like to watch people play video games, but I liked the idea of having the OPTION to do so without being spammed. So I guess I'll just revert to my default position of ignoring Twitch.
eightbit
I'll be really juicing that grandfathered in BB GCU membership until 4/2020 now....so glad I got in right before that was cancelled. I was using the Amazon 20% off preorder thing however as they were just more reliable (in terms of shipping/packaging) than Best Buy....but I saw this coming to an end. No more competition...so why continue. In any case, pre-order as much as you can right now as they do not charge you until the game ships. You can always keep an eye on your preorders and cancel as you see fit. But in a few days no more. Screw the $10 back (in credit only no less) after 35 days....not worth it to me. Why do I have this feeling this "offer" is going to be extremely limited to only certain full $60 price games and that the $10 of credit will only be valid toward items shipped and sold by Amazon only? Swami
I hate how they've started requiring you to sign up for a 7-day trial subscription to HBO or some other channel to rent one of the big movies that come out, like the Marvel movies. Has anyone done this repeated times, like subscribe, cancel, subscribe, cancel, etc., just to rent the movies?

Because that is what's in the terms? It says right there 60days or you lose it, and it has to be only on amazon sold and amazon marketplace sold goods, any third parties using them even if they ship from an amazon facility don't count. Yeah... I admit I didn't read (or didn't want to read) the terms in their completion. Terms today give such great emphasis on protecting said company (as well as benefiting) as opposed to giving the customer a fair shake. I know it well...I work in the field. So, I let you read it for me But, I kind of figured as much...

Wait a few years then get rid of discounts/raise fees/add ads 4.

Won't be too long now where prices will be just as bad as cable. Somehow this business model applies to a lot of things these days.
dj_convoy
It sucks, but we buy 99% of everything thru Amazon, anyway, so this has no bearing on me keeping Prime or not.
Tanooki
My wife said to me that if you buy movies from them while having prime, and then cancel prime you can't use them anymore so she doesn't want me to cancel it. I need to look into this as that seems highly slimy or suspect.
Jess Ragan
Seems unlikely, but possible. I wouldn't put anything past Amazon at this point. Do you have VUDU or Movies Anywhere? Movies you get from various services (Amazon, Google, VUDU, et al) are supposed to be available from all of those online services.

I need to look into this as that seems highly slimy or suspect. She's incorrect. Movies you buy are yours to keep. Just like if you buy a bunch of albums while subscribed to Apple Music or Google Music. If you join your Amazon account to MoviesAnywhere, you can play most of them elsewhere like iTunes, Microsoft, Vudu, and Google Play/YouTube. Some studios aren't participating in this (Paramount comes to mind) but Disney (incl Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars) is in there as are most others. If you quit Prime you just miss out on the Prime-only shows. I subscribe for the shipping discounts, everything else is gravy, but it's good gravy.
Tanooki
I had a feeling, I'll need to dig into their TOS on buys and prove it. I don't care about their prime shows, and the shipping discount does me no good as I don't buy much, she does more than I and it's often buying supplements and smaller gear needed for her cycling which goes over the free $35 cap. Edit: Called as I hit this post, refuses to get rid of it, the stuff she buys tends to fall under $35 (supplements are $20) so the shpping on these big tubs and the smaller bags would be far more over a year. Ugh. I wanted to cut them off since they've ruined the 20% and removed most of amazon music to have a premium prime+prime music paywall to get what used to be part of it in the last year. Once my existing preorders of the year are up I don't know when/if I'd buy from them again as it would be very random. cimerians
At some point Amazon Prime will reduce its benefits so much you'll be paying for the privilege of simply ordering from them.
