GDMike
Hi, can someone tell me what all is involved when it comes to adding, wiring and other options for adding 2 Gotek drives to a PEB internally? Are they only available in 3-1/2" form? And what are the LED display for? And I've heard something about an option switch? Do they contain an onboard clock for time/date stamping? Do they cache? Are they faster than a typical floppy? Thanks in advance/ ml
Omega-TI
I do not have a Gotek, just an HxC so the only thing I can comment on is speed and it's limited by the floppy controller. Time and date stamping also depends on your controller.
RickyDean
Here would be a good place to start http://atariage.com/forums/topic/268543-gotek-usb-floppy-emulator-questions/?hl=%2Bgotek&do=findComment&comment=4025412 There is a lot of info about using the Gotek, as well as the HxC, The main thing is that the firmware has to be changed either using the using the Hxd creators'd(and paying the price), method, or another open source method, I'm not familiar with, at least yet. I use one and it is somewhat faster than a comparable floppy. To mount in the PEB box you would need a splitter going from the old bigger floppy power plug to the smaller 3.5 size and a couple of adapters, like the ones used in the 90's and early 2000 era that allowed placing a 3.5 floppy in a 51/4 slot. Thanks in advance/ ml install 2 drives on a cable without a twist use drives like you would regular floppies display allows you to select the disk image by name instead of a number based on directory sort.(disk 4 could be anything... by name you know what it is) it has no clock the disk controller would support that if i it is a myarc one all the others have no support for tod i believe they are designed to be the same speed as a floppy drive as they are emulating one there is a setting i believe to remove seek times haven't tried it
Omega-TI
There is a *RARE* DS/DD floppy drive controller card out there called the BWG, by SNUG I believe. If I remember correctly, it has a CorComp compatible clock and timestamps files, other than that one, I'm ignorant of another. I also believe the BWG supports up to four disk drives.
