I read a similar article five or maybe even ten years ago in Smithsonian Air & Space during a prior effort at cleaning and preserving lunar EVA suits from one of the Apollo missions. The rate at which stuff decays is sad, and in some cases, actually dangerous - degraded Kapton wiring caused a fire and fatal crash of Swissair flight 111 in 1998.
