Snap a picture of the inside, dump from the chips, picture of the error on screen etc. I believe your account of what happens. While the error is still on showing move video cable to another TV. The error should still appear on screen. hmm error 9, corrupted stack/unable to put to screen memory...

No rainbow for you! :)

You're sure it's a stock Atari OS ROM in there?

Whatever text strings you see would be visible in the OS ROM if they're in there..... Like "System Error" - I also have never seen or heard of this before.

I looked at my ROM's and they are my OS 11 chipset. Now I'm going to have to pull them out and see If I can dump them to look for

SYSTEM ERROR

CODE:

Never heard of such a thing, but I don't run OS11, either. I would look in the DIAG address space in $D000-$D7FF for some kind of new stuff, This code is never used again once you get thru a cold boot.

(you have to move this block down into $5000-$57FF in order to see it - use the DIAG bit in the MMU)

The 375 makes the DRAM clocks, by the way.

which explains corruption and problem in putting to screen memory... makes perfect sense.

I just did a quick scan through the usual OS 11 ROM you find in all the usual places online. The only English text obvious in the code is the ordinary BOOT ERROR message you get when you have a drive connected but no disk/DOS available to load:

Ok, I guess I'm loosing it. I reinstalled the bad 74LS375 chip and without the SALT cartridge installed all I get is a black screen without

any keyboard or sound. When I installed the SALT cart the main screen comes up but the computer locked up tight. The hearts and

@ signs are all over the screen and the rolling colors are frozen. I tried turning the machine off and on quickly several times, and I tried

turning the computer on for several minutes to let it warm up before turning it off and on. Nothing made any difference. Maybe reseating

the bad chip made just enough difference to get by the orange SYSTEM ERROR CODE:? I would have liked to post a picture of that

screen because I'll most likely never see it again.

Once again I apologize for the confusion...
