Wally1
hey gang i would like to make 3.5 720k floppies of GODS (forgive the gentile spelling, my Jewish brethren) but G-DS comes in 800k sized files. what can I do? thinks WAlter
pixelmischief
An 800K disk is simply a soft-sectored DSDD. If you have software that can write the image back to floppy, you should be ok.
ParanoidLittleMan
With PC, you can write 800 K format only with internal drive, not with USB attached one. SW for: http://atari.8bitchip.info/floimgd.php
Wally1
well they said it wasn't possible but all i needed was a little piece of tape to cover the hole across from the write protect notch to make a hi-density 1.44 MB disk behave like a 720 K disk. using external USB floppy. and, it worked. Now bunch of great games on mu UltraSaint. oh I used PC (DOS) command "format a: /T:80 /N:9" I will try software mentioned in Paranoid Little Mans link. Thank you both. jefffulton
I have yet to find a Gods disk that is under 890K. That odd format is much more difficult for a PC to produce than an 820k. There might be a cracked version that will work, but Disk 2 is always a problem with Gods. It is in an off compressed format already. Walter 720 KB is not good for many Atari SW, they use higher capacity (10 sectors/track instead 9), and that's simply not supported by firmware of USB floppy drives. Wally1
well a happy little compromise is that I got a game called 'Onslaught' to work and it is pretty friggin great.
jefffulton
I have not been able to get "GODS" to write out to any floppy. It's actually two 890k floppies. Even with Black tape over the the left side hole on a 1.44k floppy I can't get Makedisk to create that format.
ParanoidLittleMan
PC floppy controller can't create and write hyperformat - that's how 890 KB is called. You need Atari for that. Or try with other crack. Hell, I looked what format it is in original - and it is 2 x 800 K (with lot of empty space). You definitely need another crack.

I had the original disk 2 for Gods (I can't find disk one). When you run disk two, try's to run its own disk-expander. I have looked at all of the major cracks, and none will write on a PC. Had anyone created an image writer what will work on the ST?
