Macross_VF1
A few weeks ago I asked for help with a faulty XEGS. I've managed to get it to power on by replacing the ram and all caps. However now I discover that the C101687 chip gets really damn hot. Anyone know if it's possible to replace or if I'm SOL?
+DrVenkman
A replacement is $12 from Best Electronics: http://www.best-electronics-ca.com/custom-i.htm Pretty much all XEGS boards are soldered though, so you'll have to be handy desoldering ICs to replace the original. If you do so, I'd strongly suggest installing a socket during the process.
+Nezgar
C101687 is the ROM which contains the OS, BASIC, and Missile Command in 1 32KB chip. Apparently they are a common failure point. A 27c256 EPROM or 28c256 EEPROM are also drop-in replacements for the XEGS if you have the means to program one. Or, someone might be able to program and mail one for you, depending on mail cost compared to BEST where you are in the world.
Macross_VF1
I do not have the means of programming a new rom so I need one that's already full of the good stuff. However soldering I can do, it just takes some patience.
