Yes I understand !  thanks for the explanation.

 

I just discovered that hack-o-matic actually has a text editor.. I will mess around to see what I can come by ;-)

Which program are you using ?

 

I use a hex file editor called Hex Editor Neo.

ok first the good news,

 

I had great results with text editing (thanks to Ikrananka),

I have drawn more alien species,

and re-tweaked Robbie (yes the name stuck)

 

the bad news.. it seems the aliens are not 16x16 in all their frames.......... major redesign is in order  :woozy:

 

oh well, check the latest alien critters (I'm not sure about the yellow thing..) and the redesigned Robbie !!

Her we go, adding a pincer never hurts :P

and with the new improved "bee" I think we are done !

unless I'm wrong we need 11 monsters plus the tracking alien..

ok now lets try to squeeze them in !!

 

still haven't decided what to do with the bonus items...

  • redesigned Robbie + laser beam
  • xenomorphs are in (no other monsters yet)
  • some text changed
  • lives remaining icon changed

hmmmmm..  when the Xenomorph attacks from the left (backwards) he looks awkward :(

 

edit: I hate to see him go.. but how about replace him with a front looking type ?

remember that (only) the homing alien for some unknown reason has two frames of animation..

I've got to have a Xenomorph homing in on you..

after dozens of (laughably) bad tries, I settle on the following bad guy :P

Which hex editor do you use?
Only a few supports 1bit graphics and even less support the ram arrangement used for 16x16 sprites in the TMS9918

Hey guys,

 

I don't believe I spend so much time on this stupid thing...

I was determined to have the access cards fit together like jigsaw pieces, and finally I'm happy with the result :-D

With the valuable help of artrag, we even managed to find and squish a bug ;) in the original code !!

So I present you the new improved control board of the star ship Venture.

The question mark consists by 4 tiles, but only 3 were defined in ROM. The 4th was a blank tile (see the pic)

artrag found some empty space in the rom, and doing some code magic, replaced the missing tile !

So now we can have a nice complete skull :P
