emkay
Some months ago I experimented with the RMT... and made a song named "DREAM". I didn't release it because of the 1,79MHz bug in the emulation. So channel 3 is not authentic exept the generator "8". Channel 1, 2 and 4 are played like on the o. H.W... Those who don't know it, please listen... What do you think about it?
analmux
I've played the song on my real A8. The sound is rather out of tune, like other RMT songs. Is that caused by the bug you mentioned? Without the tuning bug it would sound really good, except a short part in the beginning (composition mistake). ----- mux
analmux
I almost forgot: Some drum sounds could be made better... You said before that the SID style is no problem for Pokey, but I think the tuning of the sound is VERY important. Pokeys high notes are out of tune, while SIDs aren't. And another thing: I remember you saying that Pokey has filtering capabilities that are never used before. What kind of filtering do you mean exactly, and how is it done??? ----- mux
emkay
>The sound is rather out of tune, like other RMT songs. Is that caused by the bug you mentioned? Please define "out of tune"....( CMC songs or some GRAYSCALE songs are rather more out of tune) Ofcourse it is not possible to turn back time to associate good sounding to a Chiptune by a superior game.... Further it is not possible to put active filters into the ATARIs circuits... When I created the Song, I had heavy fights with generator"c" (that has the character of a muted guitar...) It was very unstable. The new Emulation is allmost more stable and it is possible to correct some soundings. To make the Sound more "tuned" faster updatings are necessary... >Some drum sounds could be made better... Ofcourse not for this song. They are exactly as "requested". In addition... it is possible to build a very good Baseline with it.
emkay
And another thing: I remember you saying that Pokey has filtering capabilities that are never used before. What kind of filtering do you mean exactly, and how is it done??? If you listen to the music of ADMIRANDUS (fanfare and pause)... The sounds are done by 16Bit filter. Which uses 3 channels. So you have one voice left to create percussion or attendance. To create an additional channel, one of the three combined channels can be used with sampling... So the emulation seems to work right now, there is a good chance to rebuild that in the RMT....
emkay
Supplemental : To create better sounding POKEY tunes with nice melodies, a tracker for this is required....nontheless (8bit, filtering, vibrato & portamento are provided already) Allmost every POKEY Tracker uses the 8-bit calculation for the notes. But 16 Bit requires recalculated programming in words for the correct notes... The programm must even calculate 16Bit with and without the used 1,79MHz and has to recalculate when using the triangle sound either. When using combined channels it is possible to use allways one with the voltage-bit. A programmable speed from 50.51.52 to 200Hz would help to build an LFO... At least a POKEY-tracker must be used by requesting instruments and by playing notes per channel...
