Hi,

I am looking to buy any Atari 8-bit computer related books. If you have any for sale please email me. I'd only be interested in complete very nice quality books. I'm not interested in books with loose or missing pages, writing in them or ripped/bent pages/covers.

I am interested in the following languages

Basic

Assembler

PL65

Atari Graphics

Atari Game programming.

Please email me with any items you may have.

Thanks

John

Sorry, there is no Compute's Third Book of Atari Graphics. There were just the two. Not to be confused with Compute's First through Third Book of Atari which had a whole variety of programs including graphics related stuff. By the way, the best two books on Atari 8-bit assembly language are Atari Roots by Mark Andrews and Assembly Language Programming for The Atari Computers by Mark Chasin. Don't bother with anything else except for the two Compute Assembly language books.

Compute also had Mapping the Atari, Compute's Atari Collections Vol 1 & 2 and also the Atari Basic Sourcebook. Admittedly the last one isn't very useful if programming the 5200. I believe those plus the ones previously mentioned are about everything Atari made for the Atari line.

One cautionary note: If I remember correctly a lot of the example files given in Compute's Machine Language for Beginners used an undocumented call to put text on the screen and they will not work on the XL and later versions. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but I seem to remember reading that recently in some old Compute mags.

Of course, if you just want to read the Compute books you can go to www.Atariarchives.org for Mapping the Atari and Compute's First and Second book of Atari Graphics. They have great programming examples for writing games. To me these three are the best out of the series, although the others are good as well.
