Agent X
Click here to read an MSNBC article about several video game developers from Utah. One of the developers mentioned is Beyond Games, who created the excellent Lynx automobile combat game BattleWheels. They've gone on to do games for several systems, but their other Atari-related games include Ultra Vortek on the Jaguar, and several unfinished Lynx games such as Cybervirus and Ultra Vortex (now renamed Ultravore) which have recently been acquired by Songbird Productions. The article unfortunately doesn't mention any of the Atari games that they did, just Motor Mayhem for the PlayStation 2 (a descendant of BattleWheels, which has some characters from Ultra Vortek as vehicle drivers). It's interesting to learn that they were located within such close proximity of the developers for most of the Twisted Metal games. Albert
I just read the article, I didn't know there was so much game development taking place in Utah. I was amused to see that Looking Glass was mentioned as competition to Headgate and Access in the Golf game realm, as I worked on Looking Glass' golf title (British Open Championship Golf). It was actually a very enjoyable Golf game (and the first to feature the British Open license), but unfortunately it should have been published by a company with an established history and interest in sports titles. Anyway, back to the reason you mentioned the article. I didn't know Beyond Games was still in business! I'll have to make sure we mention this as we write up the company descriptions for the upcoming Lynx section. Thanks for the heads up! ..Al
Jetboot Jack
Hmmm, that article is not very accurate - it doesn't mention Exidy at all and sure all the companies are there, most grew from Sculptured!!! Sculptured produced DOZENS of atari games over the years, but its real Claim to Fame was th ehome versions of MK and Super Star Wars, Super Empire Stikes Back and Super Return of the Jedi on the SNES - gazillion sellers all of 'em! George's last company Kodiak has unfortunatley died - we were working on Circus Maximus (Xbox), Monsters Inc (no not the scare island game) (PS2) and an MS title (Xbox)... Circus and Monsters Inc (my baby) will come to market... sTeVE

I just emailed them last week to let them know I'm sending a pair of CyberVirus carts to them.
+Cafeman
Jet Boot, I thought you worked for Kodiak. When did you switch to C.D.?
slapdash
Speaking of Exidy, does anyone have an idea who might know who owns the various Exidy copyrights now?
