What are the five most indespensible titles for the Lynx?

Your input on the Lynx has been invaluable. I juat boughy a Lynx II with 12 games for $61.00. A good buy? Anyway, I need to know what are the five games a Lynx owner must have. I am a gamer, not a collector, and I don't care to have all the games. I just want THE best. The best combination of gameplay, graphics and sound, in that order. It looks like S.T.U.N Runner, Roadblasters, Klax, Blue Lightning and Joust are the best, but I'm sure there are others.

I couldn't just limit myself to five, so I'll give you ten. But, I'm breaking them down into single-player and multi-player games.

Single-player:

Blue Lightning

Electrocop

Klax

RoadBlasters

S.T.U.N. Runner

Multi-player:

BattleWheels

Rampart

Shanghai

Todd's Adventures in Slime World

Warbirds

All the multi-player games above are excellent single-player games, too. And if 10 games aren't enough for you (they certainly aren't enough for me), then here's 10 more bonus picks: A.P.B., Checkered Flag, Crystal Mines II, Gates of Zendocon, Joust, Lemmings, Ms. Pac-Man, Robotron: 2084, Shadow of the Beast, and Xenophobe.

Come to think of it, 20 Lynx games aren't enough, but I think I'll just stop here.

The indispensables depend on the type of game you like. I would include on my list:

Chip's Challenge

(great puzzle game)

Squeek

(unusually deep puzzle game)

Missle Command/Asteroids

(am I the only person who likes this title?)

Joust

(Great port of a game I like to pick up from time to time)

Gates of Zendocon

(fun if easy side scrolling shooter)

Honorable mention:

Lexis, Klax, Loopz (if you can find one)

Dracula is neat but not a lot of replay value, and it's a bit slow.

Thanks. Keep it coming. What I find interesting is that some of the best games you mentioned are puzzle games. Shanghai, Crystal Mines, Chips Challenge. Atari has never been known as a brain teaser type of company. My criteria again is the games anyone would like to play whether it is action, puzzle, etc.

Forgive me if I go over 5, I'm not counting. In no order than Rampart IS number one:

Rampart

RoadBlasters

Crystal Mines II

Klax

Chip's Challenge

Ms Pac-Man (what system is complete without?)

Qix

Robotron 2084

Xybots

Special mention of Scrapyard Dog and Bill & Ted for being games you can't just beat in ten minutes. I'm told that Todd In Slime World is complex too but I've never played it. I *intend* to get Battlezone and Asteroids/Missile Command soon as I don't have to amputate a limb to purchase.

Sounds good to me. Does anyone know where I can find a second model Lynx for a reasonable price? I had the original Lynx briefly but I didn't care for the large, maxi-pad like shape.

Anyway, my favorite games on the Lynx were Toki, Blue Lightning, Roadblasters, Desert Strike, and Ninja Gaiden.

Toki is easily the best Super Mario Bros. clone on the system, and a very close translation of the arcade game (while the NES version looked awful, and the Genesis game had new, more boring rounds).

Blue Lightning... dude, it's Blue Lightning. It's still one of the most impressive handheld games ever made, even with the mighty Game Boy Advance around.

Roadblasters is another great first person shooter with a tight arcade-quality feel. It's another Lynx game that's superior to the NES and Genesis versions.

Desert Strike is a tough one, but it's quite enjoyable... it's an overhead shooter/military simulation with detailed graphics and a lot more depth than most games in the Lynx library.

Finally, I picked Ninja Gaiden because it's the ARCADE VERSION, unlike that idiotic NES game which was basically just warmed over Castlevania.

Some of you have given me some new games to look for, plus I want all the Songbird titles. I have about 15-20 games for my Lynx so far and out of those, I'll pick my top 5.

Battlewheels

Stun Runner

Warbirds

Hydro

Checkered Flag

Power Factor

Shadow of the Beast

APB

Super Off Road (eeprom BEST Electronics was selling for a while, never officially released but awsome and complete!

whos counting?

Lynx titles - the 5 best, and there is NO arguing with these babies:

California Games

Blue Lightning

Electrocop

Chip's Challenege

Gates of Zendocon

ALL are totally beautiful, totally great, endlessly replayable, they were developed by the BEST developer on the LYNX - EPYX...

One of my personal favorites is Rampage. I may not play it much anymore, but I still consider it to be one of the best ones I have for it. I also like Shanghai. Rampage is pretty much the reason that I even got my lynx. After playing it in an arcade, I got addicted to it. After seeing that the game was on the lynx, I HAD to have one. lol.

I'm shocked that nobody mentioned Battlezone 2000. I absolutly love that game especially w/ more than one player. My top 5 would have to be:

Warbirds

Battlezone 2000

Checked Flag

Lemmings

Awsome Golf

Todd's adventures in slime world is close. It's not one of the best but I was pleasantly suprised by it and am still constantly playing it. Xenophobe would be next.

I also love the puzzle games (Chips challange, Ishido (strat not puzz), Crystal Mines II, etc) but the list is limited to 5.

Actually I think you ment "Road Riot 4WD". Super Off Road was released by Telegames, and you can still purchase it for 39.95.

I'm not sure it's really fair to compare Jaguar Checkered Flag with the Lynx version... they're almost completely different games (The Jaguar version is a Virtua Racing ripoff, whereas the Lynx version is a Pole Position ripoff). However, the Jaguar version had some bad control problems that ruined the game. The Lynx version is definitely much better.

As for Blue Lightning, I actually like the Jaguar version quite a bit. It's basically the same idea, but the Jaguar expands on. It's less impressive than the Lynx version when you consider the system specs, but I wouldn't say it's a worse game than the Lynx version.

As for my top "five" list (In no specific order):

Xenophobe

Checkered Flag

Klax

Todd's Adventure in Slime World

Shanghai

Gauntlet: The Third Encounter (At least someone likes it...)

Honorable mentions go to: Blue Lightning, Warbirds, Rygar, Battlezone 2000, Ishido, Block Out, Joust, and California Games. Phwew, that was a long list... the Lynx has so many quality titles
