New Here - Atari 800 Rocks

Hello all,

I am new here and glad to see a forum to Atari-bit computers. I own an Atari 800 with loads of games and stuff. Most of the games I have are on disk and don't have any instructions for them and thru the years had to figure it out all on my own. I don't have a favorite game as all of them are great and I think they are pre-cursors to the computer games we have now. My parents bought the 800 when it first came out and my dad told me, not to long ago, how much he paid for it...I am hoping to get a small TV to hook my 800 up to if the new TV's work with them. Once I get it going, I'd be glad to share...I have been looking on the internet for instructions to "Eastern Front" and so far no luck. That is the only game in my collection, I can't figure out how to play. If anyone wants a list, I'd be glad to make one up!

Thanks for letting me join your group and sorry to bore you!

(as for letting neighborhood kids play, i was the talk of the neighborhood and should've charged a quarter for every game they played) :D

If I hadn't been so scared of ruining my Eastern Front manual I'd scan it for you but I simply don't dare take the chance of ripping it up or something :(

Lighten up, Francis.

The rules are pretty simple. You give orders to your groups of infantry (the X's) and tanks (the O's) and attempt to drive back the red groups. IIRC, cities under your control will also build additional groups if they are not under attack...and you attempt to gain control of foreign cities as well.

So the controls are move the joystick to a white group, hold the fire button, and move the stick to where you want that group to move to. When holding the button over any group, it will detail that group's strength. It you hit the space bar, it will cancel those orders. You can give a maximum of 8 orders to a group during any turn. Press start for the battle to commence. When that turn has ended, groups may have orders still active (if their objective hasn't been carried out).

Your goal is to control all the cities before a certain time period (month/year) - leaving a unit on a city means you control it.

Careful with your movements though - tanks dont mvoe so fast in trees and swampy areas - mtns make things even slower :)

I really liked this game - Operation Whirlwind I liked even better since it was a bit easier to win.
