Those strange white boxes

Tempest

Recommended Posts

I've recently accquired two 2600 games that came in plain white boxes, Othello and Dodge 'em. I noticed that AtariAge has them both listed here under the box variations, but I was wondering why they're like that? Was it a goof or were they suppose to be all white with black text?

Oh! Were they part of those special 3 pak's that Atari put out? I think Othello went with some other stategy games and I'm fairly sure Dodge 'em went with Indy 500 as some sort of racing pak. I had forgotten all about those! Now I need the other box I guess (anyone ever see them?)

Yes, they were a part of the "pak" specials Atari sold. Unfortunately, I'm unsure if they had any other external packaging that held the boring white boxes. I've at least never seen any, that is.

Has anyone ever seen any of the "pak's" sealed as they came from the stores?

hey scott, if you get some sealed ones, let me have the used ones ;-)

in germany there has been none of these PAKs, only the 2600/7800 power unit and the cx-40 joystick used to be in white boxes for a while ... i got those but it's nothing real interesting in my collection ...

tempest is right about othello, i've seen this scanned once within a pak ... i think with concentration and brain games, not sure though ...

As someone mentioned, those white boxes were the inner "Pak" boxes (at least for the Action Pak). Hmmm, I thought we had those listed but I guess not. Something we need to do. I have a small picture of the larger "Action Pak" box, but I'm looking for a better version.

Hi guys,

I have all three PAKs: Back to School, Action and Racing. All pack-in games come in those white boxes, so that makes, respectively (and color of the big outer box):

Brain Games and Basic Programming (yellow)

Break Out, Othello and Dodge'Em (blue)

Indy 500 and Slot Racers (green)

Hope this helps

Cheers,

Marco

Yeah! You just reminded me of a boxed VCS Power Supply that I had at one point - simply marked "Power Supply" in black letters on a white box.

Probably like all that generic packaging from back in that era. It was MUCH less expensive to produce than some fancy 4-color packaging. Plus, being it's packaged inside of something else, it wouldn't need to have the visual appeal that a standalone product would.
