MattyXB
http://cgi6.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewListedItems&userid=e18s&inc lude=0&since=-1&sort=2&rows=25://http://cgi6.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...&sort=2&rows=25://http://cgi6.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAP...&sort=2&rows=25 I think the Garfield Prototype is just a copy, because I have seen it one time on Ebay with the same sticker on it. And so many rare items? He is new and has no feedback yet. Can it be true? Or is this a fake??? I think better beware. What do you think???? Sorry, this was the german link. Here the one for all other users: http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?...&sort=2&rows=25 Matthias [ 06-01-2001: Message edited by: MattyXB ]
jahfish
well, there was no more garfield today. i guess: a) it was a false one, and he allready ripped someone, keeping us in the dark b) he read our postings and found out that there's only one game ... and retracted his auction c) it was "the" real one, and tempest allready bought it off from him ...(let us know) the dukes of hazard should be a real one. notice that a lot of protos from atari were loose, only boxed by JerryG or Best Elec. in the mid 90ies. check tempests proto-pics on his site to be sure ... there you'll see how the roms looked like. also MaO can help you on this topic, even in german greetings fish

Tempest
It's a nice story but it doesn't add up. Up until Steve Woita released his personal copy of Garfield last year (after getting permission from Jim Davis) there was no other copies known to exist. If there was even a incomplete proto floating around someone would have leaked word of it's existance. Second, the story about the label seems too convienent. Sure main labels fall off, but I've never seen an end label for a proto cart fall off, those things were suck on tight! And the label on there now (the little round dot) is a sure give away that it's a copy, all the copies I've seen have had that exact same dot on them. Finally, look at the guy's rating. Sure he has the glasses next to his name meaning he's changed his name but a 0 rating is still a 0. It all seems to be a little to unbelievable to be true. If it is true then someone got quite a deal (wasn't me unfortunetly). I think the line about Best releasing copies of the game is there to cover his ass when someone decides to open it up and finds out it's a copy. Anyone know the guy who bought it? Marc Oberhäuser
Looks like a Hozer cart for me. Randy puts this green round sticker on many carts. I have at least 4 carts from him with such a sticker...
ren.dhark
There are two dukes of hazard protos at ebay (both with black/white label). One seller wrote it is a Best Electronic game and the other says it is from Atari. Does anybody know who is right? Thanks Günther
Tempest
I have a few of those too. I asked John Hardie about it at Philly and he thinks it was some kind of date system where a different colored dot represented a particular month. What this was used for I don't know but I have 2600 and 5200 protos with Blue, Red, and Yellow dots and now I've seen Green. Anyone know more about this? BTW if you want to sell or trade that prototype... Tempest
Joel D. Park
I might very well trade the proto, Since I only have very few proto's, I don't really expect to start a collection, also I'm a little afraid of Bit Rot . Here are all the proto's I have. http://www.atari2600.net/CartImages/AtariF...llPrototype.jpg http://www.atari2600.net/CartImages/Activi...llPrototype.jpg http://www.atari2600.net/CartImages/FrankProto.jpg http://www.atari2600.net/CartImages/Mattel...lStarStrike.jpg I also have a Megamania All red cart, but it is missing the paper label so I didn't scan it.. Email me at: joelp@cyberspaceport.com maybe we can work out a trade.
videotwit
Joel- Very cool! I've never seen a M-Network loaner before. Thanks! And, if you're worried about bitrot, have a trustworthy source dump the game for you. I've had this done by Randy at Hozer before, so I can personally vouch for him. It has also recently come to my attention that the Digital Press guys can do the same. From my few dealings in the past with Joe, I would also vouch for his high integrity. Joel D. Park
Thanks, I'm not even sure the Activision and Mattel carts are real proto's, they were probably just the released version, but I don't know. I've played them a little but haven't really noticed any differences between the real ones and the loaners.
Scott Stilphen
FYI - the CGE guys got permission from Jim Davis to release Garfield, not Steve Woita.
MattyXB
@ Günther I don't know, but if you will buy one look at the feedbacks. One has 0 and the other 244. And the one with the 0 has so many rare items that I think this can not true. Better you buy it from the one with the good feedback. Maybe both are right? Atari has make it and Best Electronic has sell it? But I don't know this. Matthias
Tempest
Oops your right. I meant that he couldn't let it be released until someone got permission from Jim. Well, Technically they're both right. Atari manufactured them but didn't release them (probably because they discovered the game sucked ass) so Best bought them all and sold them. So they're from both Atari and Best. Has anyone found an actual prototype of this game? Just curious (and I don't mean the Stunt Cycle version). Tempest
