diabolik
Just for kicks I figured I'd check out a few of the carts I hand in the drawer beside me, 4 carts into my first handful I found one of my alltime faves, Space Invaders. I couldn't find my cart in the rarity listing. There are six different varities listed, only one silver labelled edition which is dated 1988, my cart is labelled 1980 and varies from the listed cart in a few ways. The variety of the cart is not listed. Just found itinteresting, you should maybe look at adding the cart tothe list. i don't believe itis anything rare, but someone looking forit may be lead to believe otherwise
Ze_ro
My silver Space Invaders also has a 1980 date on it... perhaps the 1988 is a typo? A little off topic, but I've noticed that "silver label" applies to two distinct (in my opinion) types of labels. They both have a silver background, but some have a small picture (and Atari in large print), and the others have a large picture that covers most of the label. Is there any reason that these types are "merged" together like this? Is there any game that came in both types of silver labels? --Zero
jochta
They are called SILVER1 and SILVER2 in the Label Variations list. These carts definitely came out with both varieties, Obelix, Pole Position and Mario Bros. It is possible that Stargate and E.T. did, although I've only seen one type of each. I'm very doubtful about these two actually! John
Albert
Diabolik - If you want to scan this cart then I'll put it online. Most of the scans in the 2600 section came from either my or Alex's personal collections. If a variation isn't up there that's often because we simply don't have it. However, those holes have been slowly filling up thanks to those contributing to AtariAge. Again, if you send us a high-quality scan (of the front and end labels) I'll make sure it gets online and added to our database.. Thanks, ..Al
Albert
quoteThey are called SILVER1 and SILVER2 in the Label Variations list. That's a distinction we'll probably have to make here someday. When we started AtariAge we just concentrated on the major label variations and weren't as concerned about getting more minor variations, like when a game was released over a period of years, each with a unique copyright date. But since then we have started putting minor variations online, although we're not going to go gung-ho with it until we implement a better search engine that lets you filter out these "minor" variations (and they are already marked in the database this way, fortunately). quoteIt is possible that Stargate and E.T. did, although I've only seen one type of each. I'm very doubtful about these two actually! I highly doubt E.T. was released twice give all the rumors of excess stock being buried in the desert. I'm sure Atari only continued to release games that had a track record of selling at least reasonably well. As for Stargate, sure, it has two label variations! Once as Defender II and then as Stargate. Okay, okay, we do have two label variations for Stargate, one from 1985 and one from 1987. ..Al
Tempest
Actually there are two different versions of ET (I've seen two different copyrights as well). One cart has Diamond shaped windows in the spaceship and one has normal windows. There are three different Stargate labels as well (not including Defender II variations). One with a normal Silver 2 end label font, one with a Arcade font, and one with a Arcade font with black stripes going through it. Alex
Yes, I do have the ET variation, thanks to Scott Stilphen. I just haven't gotten it online yet for the reasons Albert mentioned (really want a filtering system). But since it's come up again, we'll get it added. I think he sent me the Stargate variation also (will add that too).
jochta
Yeah, but the Stargate variations are still all SILVER2 with the small Atari 2600 in the top right. Has anyone seen Stargate with the SILVER1 label, i.e. red stripe with the title and large Atari 2600 in the top centre? BTW, I contributed a colour picture (RED2) version of Solaris. Has anyone ever seen RED2 versions of the other RED1 (B&W picture) games, Jr. Pac-Man or Midnight Magic? John
