hurt
alright i have a question for everyone. i know that when i goto the thrift shops and stuff i just look for anything atari even if i have 20 or more (if it is cheap i get it, or if i don't have it at all). anyway but when i order stuff on ebay or trade i try to go through my list of stuff i need in order. i was thinking that i should just get all the common games first but then i thought that there is a good chance that i will just find them out thrift shop hopping. anyway i would like to know if people have a system to how they hunt or if they just go mad and try to get anything they don't have right off the start. videotwit
When I started, I just picked up everything I saw that I didn't already own. If that meant buying a box of 50 games because I needed 1 or 2, I'd do it anyways, but I wouldn't just buy extras of games I already had. That was before I discovered that other people actually collect these things, and that there was a community of Classic Gaming enthusiasts on the 'net. Then I discovered "trading." Now I'll buy games if I think I can trade them for things I need, or even for better tradestock. As far as eBay goes, I never started buying games on it (sure I bought 1 or 2 when I discovered it, but that quickly came to a halt). Being there is such a large supply of commons out there, I decided I wouldn't go out of my way to pick them up online. At that point, at least, you could easily pick up common games in the thrifts, or trade some of your extras to collectors with lots of commons to spare. Nowadays I know I am always MORE than happy to trade away commons to people that need/want them. I will always give really generous deals on them as well to help fellow enthusiasts start out a collection.

Ze_ro
Usually when I go to thrift stores, I pick up whatever I can find there (which usually isn't that much) as long as I can get something I don't already have. The other day I ran across Astroblast and Space Battle bundled together for $2 and didn't bother with it. I don't bother with common doubles, but if I were to find another Pitfall 2 or Mountain King, I'd pick 'em up. As for eBay, I usually look for the games I want/like the most... and if the same person is also selling some common games I don't have, I pay the extra couple of bucks to get them thrown in too... though I rarely search exclusively for common games (I did end up winning two double-enders and Frostbite because I was looking for Enduro though). I don't know many other collectors around town here, so I don't get much trading done I'd generally prefer not to trade if I have to mail stuff... I get hit with enough shipping charges as it is. --Zero
