Nateo
Is the 2600 really dead? With all of these modern games coming out, I think the 2600 is still alive. Same with ColecoVision and Intellivision. If this is true, than the NES, Super NES, and Sega Genesis are all dead.
Ze_ro
It all depends on your perspective. I use my Atari very often, so for me it's not dead. I'm sure there's a lot of people out there who still play their Nintendo's, and who would say it's not dead. The more accepted definition of "dead" would be that the system has no new games coming out for it. Most people probably wouldn't include the prototypes and homebrew games that seem to come out pretty often for the Atari, so to them the Atari would be a dead system. In my opinion, it's only dead if you don't use it. --Zero
garyp
I still play on my Amiga, SNES, Spectrum and NES. Nothing ever dies, it just slows down so slow that it's hard to see it doing anything...
videotwit
My 2600's definitely not dead. In fact it works quite well
liquid_sky
wow, a speccy user... I have never seen any of those in the USA.. I beleive a system is only totally dead when everything has been found, enthusiasts have nothing new to find, and neglect their system in heart mind.. and in usage
mos6507
The 2600 is more alive than, let's say, the Sega Saturn. There are a lot of newer failed or otherwise obsolete consoles that have no new games being written for them and seem to have very limited interest from gamers. liquid_sky
good point, I thin im the only saturn fan out there sometimes.... I really need an RF switch tho
ATARIPITBULL
With all these people who still play there Atari systems, the people who are selling there surplus, the people who are making new games, and the fact that Atari has been bought by a real company who have changed there name to Atari, NO. I would say that Atari was just sleeping for a little while, but is now starting to wake up again.

I'd like to think that the deadest system out there is the Virtual Boy. What was Nintendo thinking?!? I'll probably still get one anyways eventually... just to get one step closer in my quest to own all video games ever --Zero
Malix
Sega CD is pretty darn dead!
utamav91
The Virtual Boy was the most underrated, misunderstood and badly marketed products on the planet. We sold them for a while at Service Merchandise, but customers didn't really seem to "get it". The basically one-player-only option didn't do well for families or multiplayer games. If they'd developed a "hat"-type thing or some sort of craniofacial support so you didn't have to hold it, and decent controller so it would be more like a visor or those virtual reality goggles you see, it would have been much better. The graphics were incredible. Who didn't grin the first time they saw Mario hit a tennis ball back at them? Too bad people didn't support this. I loved it. Hakogame 箱亀
Actually, there's been a couple new releases for the sega cd recently. One of them's called Bug Blasters, I believe.

Elvis8Atari
Atari 2600 will never die. I still play Nes,C64, super nes, sega genesis, playstation, n64 and all those other systems that are now defunct. As long as someone is still playing them old systems will never die. They may not make games for them anymore but they surely aren't dead. Especially with all these emulators out..old games will live forever
memorymoog
Would web sites like this exist if old systems were obsolete?
atari70s
moog, probably some what for historical reasons but definately not to this great exstant.
Gr4ph0n
Yes, the 2600 is dead. It was a horrible console to begin with and there are MUCH better graphics on the newer systems. People who played the 2600 in the 80's never really like the system, yet they could afford nothing else. As a favor, I will soon be posting my full address, whereas you can send all your 2600 carts and systems for proper disposal at no charge.
