memorymoog
What company do y'all think made the best 2600 games, excluding the obvious winners activision and atari. I say cbs, but im just larvae, compared to some of you atari wizards.
liquid_sky
Well, since you disqualified activision.. Imagic.
Jess Ragan
It ain't Appolo, that's for sure. I'm going to vote for a company that started making Atari 2600 during the system's renaissance in the mid to late 1980's... Epyx. Winter Games for the 2600 was superb; I'd even say that it crushed the NES version! JR
ren.dhark
Imagic and Quelle for the cheap PAL-games Günther
Joel D. Park
I definately agree with Imagic. Then I'd have to say Epyx, the three Games Series games for VCS are top knotch. Also, Parker Brothers made some real Gems. Frogger, Montezuma's Revenge, Star Wars ESB, to name a few.
ajkiii
I would have to agree that Imagic had some really good games, but my favorite company would have to be CommaVid. This company was totally different, the carts were long and odd shaped and they had some really fun games like Cakewalk and Mines of Minos. I would also have to say that Avalon Hill had some great games also.
Mindfield
What, no one's mentioned Mythicon? Er, no... I don't suppose anyone would. :-) Right, my votes would probably go for all of the above mentioned, since they made the vast majority of the games I owned and played back in the day. Osbo
Parker Brothers: Q*Bert, Frogger, Montezuma's, Return of the Jedi, The Empire strikes back. Should I say more?
Charlie_
It's a tie with Imagic (Demon Attack, Dragon Fire)and parker bros (Empire strikes back, frogger) I always thought a lot of Coleco games were good too. Like Venture and Smurf. (Ports, I know) Charlie
Tempest
Imagic definetly, but since that's one of the biggies (right behind Activison in my book) it really shouldn't be included in this poll. Personally I've always liked Telesys games. Not all of them were great (Cosmic Creeps sucks donkey balls) but they were always interesting. Joel D. Park
HEY! Cosmic creeps was one of the first games I ever got as a kid. We played the heck out of it.. I'm not going to believe that is "Sucks donkey balls". Hey but I could be wrong I guess
Heavy Sixer
While I think all of the best companies have already been mentioned, Mattel and US Games/Vidtec should at least be nominated as runners-up. U.S. Games did produce some above-average titles, such as Space Jockey (cool shooter), Word Zapper (definitely original), Towering Inferno, and Sneak 'N Peek (okay, I know everybody hates it, but I always thought the isometric rooms with the "hyperspace" hiding places were a real trip!). Mattel produced some cool versions of its Intellivision titles, such as Astroblast, Space Attack, Armor Ambush, and Frogs & Flies. I actually thought that the 2600 versions were more playable, simply due to the smoother animation and responsive controls (let's face it - Astrosmash/blast needs a paddle, not a disk). Granted, not every title produced by either company was a winner, but some of them were quite good, and I have fond memories of them. Tempest
I don't know, I just could never get into it. The sunset effect at the bottom of the screen is neat though. I always played the heck out of Coconuts (I was sure there was an ending), and people say that's a bad game. Tempest
jahfish
i'd say amiga for their nice board and the incredible powerstick ..... two very nice controllers .... besides that, in germany they were distributed along with the Tigervision games, my case-related #1 company, they had great graphics too!
Joel D. Park
Agreed. Tigervision came out with some pretty complex games for the 2600. The Miner 2049'er games come to mind. Then again, lets not forget King Kong.. That game could have been so much more.
Nateo
Imagic has some cool games (Cosmic Ark), but I love M-Network's Intellivision ports. My friends love playing Astroblast. I also like CBS for their port of Wizzards of Wor!! Sure there's a lot of flickering, but it's fun anyway.
Ze_ro
Damn, everyone else already took all the good ones. All I'm left with is Panda and Froggo! --Zero
MattyXB
Imagic, HES (the Paks are great), Parker Brothers, Epyx, Quelle are great games too and finally Starpath. Matthias
Scooterb23
Hey, there's still Data Age... Don't stop...believing, whoaohwoahhhhhhh!!!!!! Journey Escape forever
Nateo
Whoa, I forgot about Starpath! They made a better version of Frogger then Parker Bros. did, and that is a hard feat to accomplish! They also made the only publicly released RPG for the 2600 (Dragon Stomper), and lets not forget that first person maze game, Escape from the Mindmaster. Oh and they also had Phaser Patrol, a better version of Star Raiders (for the 2600 anyway.)
slapdash
I'll second CBS. Wizard of Wor, and to some extent Gorf, were pretty decent titles -- got lots of play out of those. But don't forget Tunnel Runner and Solar Fox. Those are pretty cool too. Odd, but I can't remember what I thought of Omega Race... Haven't played that one in forever.
Tempest
I still play Solar Fox to this day, I can't get enough of it. I actually started to port it to the Vectrex at one point but abandoned it. maybe I should try again some day. Tempest
videotwit
Wow! And to think that I thought that I was the only Solar Fox fan around! I mention it from time to time, but it never gets much response. In my opinion, Solar Fox is one of the greats on the 2600.
Guy Ferrante
Well for me its Atari,Activision, Imagic and Sega. There stuff was great. Avalon Hill, and Parker Brothers are next then CBS . Bought my first 2600 in 1978 and I've seen all the changes since then. /| Guy Ferrante /|

This is definitely my favorite game of theirs (Despite the fact that I use the Wizard himself as my Avatar... It's the arcade version of Wizard Of Wor that I really love). --Zero
