Albert
If you weren't able to attend the 2001 Classic Gaming Expo and snag a copy of Elevator Action for yourself, Sean Kelly has informed us that he is now making more copies available to the general public. Elevator Action was released at this year's CGE where the roughly 200 games brought to the show quickly sold out. Like the version released at CGE, these new copies will also be complete with a box, instructions and color label. If you'd like to order a copy, they're $50 and you can contact Sean at skelly@xnet.com.
StanJr
$50 for Elevator Action?! I mean its fun and all, but come on. $50 gets you a good PSX game, a so-so PS2 game, or any N64 game. Sounds like somebody is taking advantage of us...... I smell a weasel, Stan
Osbo
hummm I dunno, remember that the guy has to program the roms, get the PCB, the carts, print the labels, get the instructions sheets, the boxes, test the carts... dosen't sound like a easy job to me OsBo
Snider-man
Hmmm...I knew as soon as someone announced that one of the CGE releases would be released to the general public, that someone would complain about the price. Message board in August: "I can't get to CGE! It's unfair that these carts are released only there! Just because I can't affond to get to Vegas is no reason to deny me my opportunity to purchase one!" Today: "They're HOW much? Screw that! I'll just play with the free ROM I downloaded." For the record, I bought my Elevator Action at CGE for $40...plus airfare...plus hotel. So, I paid around $350 just for the opportunity of maybe getting one before supplies ran out. You are paying one-seventh that price. You get no sympathy from me.
StanJr
Hey, Snider-man, I'm willing to go $5 for a game that was produced 20+ years ago and is in demand among a small community of people. I just can't see 10x that amount for any Atari game. Then again, I'm not totally into the collecting aspect of the hobby. Just my opinion. I didn't complain about not being able to get to the CGE (mostly because I didn't know about it) and I'm not complaining about it now so much as I am shocked about the price of the game in general. It just doesn't seem to make sense when you compare it to modern games that cost the same. I understand the dude had to work hard to produce it, I totally feel for that, but $50 still sounds steep! Your game (Venture II kids, its cool) doesn't cost $50! Not even the treasure boxed ones you made. (by the way, can I still order a copy of Venture II?) Bargain Stan
Malathion5
You either want one or you don't. There are three on Ebay right now each around $65.00 and two of them have several days left. There is also a Combat 2 with $202.00 bid on it. $50.00 is a bit of a stretch, but there is value in the cart, at least for now.
Snider-man
I wasn't pointing fingers at you personally Stan. But if you remember what happened on this board back in August, I think you'd see where I was coming from. If you don't want to spend $50 on a game, that's your perogative. Hell, even *I* would never spend that much normally. But, while I was at CGE, I had brought lots of liquid cash just so I COULD pick up stuff like Elevator Action, Combat 2, SCSICide, Vault Assault, a few prototypes, etc. I had it to spend and the opportunity to pick up some rare, ultra-cool stuff was there. Normally, I dumpster-dive, beg from friends, and thrift-hunt. As for Venture II, yeah, I charged only $@0 for the 20 I made. In retrospect, I may have been able to get a few more nickles for each one... You can get a copy at Hozer Video Games for $16 (which is 3 times more than you'd normally spend, right? I made one last "CGE-Treasure-Chest-Edition" of Venture II especially for the AtariAge Classic Auction that Alex and Albert are organizing. That one is, literally, the last one I'll make. StanJr
No offense taken, Snider-man. I wish I had the kind of $$$ to spend like that. Do you see any of the $$$ from Venture II when Hozer sells them for you or did you get your $$$ up front?
Inky
The problem with me is that, while I would like to have one, my car just broke down, and my kids have an annoying habit of eating! Can you imagine? I wonder where they picked THAT habit up from. Certainly not dad! It's a little thing called priorities. Now when my stand up comedy career takes off... Blackjax
Heh, the solution here is pretty simple - ignore the whiners who are bitching and let those of us who really would like to order it quietly order it, and when they're all gone, the problem solves itself!
