Rekrul
I'd like to find the name a game I remember playing many years ago. It's an old space game, probably from the late 1970s, early 1980s. It was kind of a Star Raiders type game where you tried to get the ships into the crosshairs so you could shoot them, only much simpler. As far as I can remember, the display was B/W and I seem to recall that the screen was set farther back into the cabinet than most typical arcade games. You might have even had to look through a periscope type device, but I won't swear to it. Probably the most distinctive thing I remember about the game is that some of the ships you were shooting at looked like a side view of the Enterprise from the original Star Trek, only without the engines. They were basically just outlines and the explosion when you hit one was just a white circle.
Nukey Shay
http://www.klov.com/S/Starship_I.html It's featured in the arcade sequence of Dawn Of The Dead (original) as well.

I haven't seen Dawn of The Dead in a couple years, I'll have to watch it again. How about another one; This one is a little sketchier in my memory. It's probably from between 1980-1984 or so, but I suppose it could have been earlier than that. As I recall, it was a vertically scrolling plane game. I believe you flew a jet, but I don't remember if you just had to shoot things in the air and/or bomb things on the ground. Also, I think for at least part of the game, you were flying along a coast line. I'm 99% sure it was in color and that the graphics were better than anything on the 2600. I can rule out Xevious as well as Flying Shark and the 194x games. I know this isn't a lot to go on...
Nukey Shay
Too vague. There were lots of 194x-type games. Any recollection of what the enemies were or powerups?
Saikyo
Ok Im looking at klov as I type and am looking under shooters and decided to post some links to the pages that mostly sound like the game you mention. Rekrul
Too vague. There were lots of 194x-type games. Any recollection of what the enemies were or powerups? No, sorry. I only played this game a couple of times. A semi-local Bradlees store had one near the entrance and I would only get to play it when my family made a trip there, and then usually only a game or two at a time. Ok Im looking at klov as I type and am looking under shooters and decided to post some links to the pages that mostly sound like the game you mention. Thanks, but I don't think either of those are the one. I seem to recall that it mostly took place over land, but possibly following a coastline, so that you had land on one side and water on the other. Zoar's title screen looks something like what I (sort of) remember, but I don't recall flying over that much water. It's possible that the game consisted mostly of bombing targets on the ground. mrgameandwatch
Starship 1: I remember seeing that game in Dawn of the Dead (1976). That does look like a good game for being B&W and such. I wonder if it is TTL or Programmed with a Computer.
Cassidy Nolen
I would say from the detailing of the letters and such, that would have had to be a processor game. Most Atari stuff that followed Tank (Kee Games) was all processor-based. They did have a few ROM graphics games without a processor, but by 76, I think they were all running processors. Nukey Shay
The service manual is right there Doesn't it show what it is?

mrgameandwatch
Ah, I would've read the manual. But even with Adobe Acrobat, my system can't really handle PDFs. >< After a bit of thinking, those detailed letters wouldn't be a result of melding transistors and wires to a circuit board. Still looks great for being a '76 game. I think the planets were a nice touch though.

It's always so weird to see the few games that were more popular at home than in their original arcade form.
