Fellow Atari Man
Just wanted to know if anyone has any idea how many Vectrex' were sold...yeah, I know, they didn't sell well in their day, but I just curious if anyone knows of any numbers...here? In Japan? Etc. I looked at several Vectrex web sites and couldn't find anything.
Rob Mitchell
No one knows because they were made in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. Then marketed across western Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. They were designed by Smith Engineering, sold to CGE which was bought by Milton Bradley. I've been told that the Vectrex console and games were dumped at closeout prices at Toys'R'Us in 1986. Console sold for $50 and games for $10, then $5, then $0.99. If I had only known then! Yeah I paid $50 for my Vectrex, although that was back in '84 (plus in Houston, even for a big city, most jobs didn't pay worth a crap, and rent was pretty cheap too), and I don't think I ever paid over $10 for a game. And I got Star Trek for less than a buck in '88, when they brought them out, as they were thinking about re-releasing the Vectrex back then. No one knows because they were made in both Hong Kong and Taiwan. Then marketed across western Europe, North America, Australia and Japan. Dang! Any ballpark estimates though? 250-300,000 units or something? 500,000? Thanks for the reply.

moycon
I remember when the games were .99 at TRU At one time I had a couple Star Treks that I had bought even though I didnt have a Vectrex. Of course I used to open the box and shove an Atari 2600 game in there as well. I was bad.
