Would anyone pay money for something like this...

I just had a thought. I was looking at a few web pages where guys make some super cool labels for their Atari carts. Sometimes for games that Exists sometimes not.

What if a person took VERY common carts like PacMan and Combat and gave them new fancy labels. The carts definately need to be advertised as the same old game, and not a new game.. But alot of folks, me included collect for not only the games to play, but also for the Art on the labels.

It would be like Atari Art.. I would probably bid a couple dollars on a cool looking pacman or combat cart..

The only downside is that it would be taking away from carts to be used for Homebrews. But from what I've heard on the Stella List, a few folks might try to make their own carts if thing keep up.

My 2 Cents.

I actually did this once. (I was bored... really, really bored). Here's the story:

I decided I needed to make a Pac-Man double ender. One side played 2600 Pac-Man. The other side played ... well ... 2600 Pac-Man. Like I said, I was bored.

The cart was the hard part. First I disassembled everything. I cut the end label end off of both Pac-Man carts with a utility knife, and using a special ABS glue (basically an ABS resin suspended in Methyl Ethyl Keytone... It's a long story how I got it, but in a nutshell I used to work as a display model designer for LEGO, and it was the glue we'd use to make the life sized LEGO dinosaurs / animals / et. al. permanent) I fixed the 2 carts together to form a double ender. It actually worked pretty slick, and the only evidence was a small seam down the middle of the cart, since it the ABS resin was white tinted instead of black.

Then it was on to the label - which I just made in some crappy PC paint program (which is what I had to suffer through in my pre-Mac days). I printed the label out on nice paper, and using spray glue, affixed it to the cart. It actiually turned out pretty well. I could do much better now after lots of experience with design and graphics software -- maybe I'll try another some day.

As a joke, in the end I put it on eBay. I think someone payed around $14 for it. So, yes, people will pay money for them.

Oh, yes, I sure can! The A#1 Fancy Lable (sic) Club is now at: http://www.ULTRAtwit.com/galleries/a1flc.html. Unfortunately my scanner is broken, so the A#2 gallery is on temporary hold. Hopefully I'll get a new one soon, and as soon as I do it'll go online. (Sorry about the wait on that, Russ.)

Actually, I'll be adding to those gallerys soon. More "Cart-Art" type creations, running the whole spectrum of peoples imaginations. It should be fun!

Yeah, that would have been cool. Unfortunately, I made this years before A Better Pac-Man was written. Plus, I thought it was kinda funny that both ends were the same game.

Twit, you used to work as a LEGO designer? That's the coolest job EVER.

It was a cool job for the first several years. But then the company totally mangled its org chart and it became a hellhole too quick to know it.

But it was fun while it lasted, and it even got me to E3 one year. It was the first year that LEGO released a video game (LEGO Island), and 3 of us went down to build an 8-foot tall replica of the games main character, "Timmy." That was a blast!

wi1ycat-

I'll try to take some pics this weekend. Email me and bug me about it so I don't forget.

Russ-

I'm pretty sure I don't have any pics of it any more. I'll see if I can dig something up, though.

The Atari LE would be pretty cool, actually! I considered it quite a while back, maybe now would be a time to resurrect that project. It'd have to be a real working 2600, which is going to take some time, and even more efort, but the end product will be sweet! Anyhow, I'll post pictures if I ever get around to it.

No, please do feel bad

It was an actual auction for the double-ender... It was really sent to the winning bidder. By saying it was a joke, I meant I just did it to amuse myself for a while. (And please don't feel bad about it. All it really was were 2 twenty five cent Pac-Man carts glued together, with a piece of paper attached to the side of it.)

(No bidder was harmed in the auction of the 2600 Pac-Man double-ender)

Not even close. Actually a good friend of mine is a huge LEGO collector. I've sold most of the stuff I got to him, and turned around and spent that money on Atari stuff. I do have quite a bit of loose pieces left, though. Probably three 5-gallon buckets worth, or more.

Know anyone that would want to trade rare Atari stuff for my leftover LEGO?
