I definitely would NOT like to see that happen!

BTW: You don't need a 'programmer' to hack a game. Nearly anybody, who is able do download the needed tools can do so. Programming is something completely different.

Maybe you do. Depends on how much he wants to 'hack' the game. He may want to change gameplay somewhat as well as graphics. An understanding of programming would be necessary to do that.

Not that I think he'll get anyone...

For one thing, I am not commercializing anything. I just would like to tell anyone interested in the project what games they would be working on. For another, yes I would need a programmer because I do need slight gameplay diffrences. So dont make conclusions untill you have heard the full story...

I wouldnt be taking royalty anyway, thats up to the programmer so I wont be making a profit, I just design them. If you dont make a profit, you arent stealing. And tell that to the makers of Mystery Science Theater 2600. He may or may not of got rights to use the name and concept, I dont know. The same guy also did Blair Witch Project for the 2600, he isnt accepting royalty so really it would be Hozer if anyone who got in trouble, I dont really know how they handle it.

actually pyramid, just because you arent making a profit doesnt mean you arent stealing. and i'm not trying to bag on you, i'm a fan of hacks just as much as anyone else

but, if i steal my neighbors 52" tv and put it in my living room instead of selling it....

anyways, good luck on your projects, they sound very cool!

You're not likely to get sued over something like this anyways... I doubt Wizard is around to release the lawyers on you over a 20 year old piece of software.

...

Of course, if you DO get sued, don't blame me!

Well as for some good news about my hacks, I allready did one myself, War of the Worlds has been complete and I sent it to Hozer Video, and Randy, who runs it, said that he will play it as soon as possible and that theres no reason he wont add it, if it is as good as I said. Hopefully he will find it as good as I said. Its just a simple hack of Defender, changing the graphics some, to fit the movie look. I also changed the ship into a helecopter. I hope you all like it if you get a chance to play it.

Has anyone tried converting any of the old home computer games to 2600 format?

I was thinking about games such as Jet Pac and Manic Miner, about 8K and 14K respectively. Both were released for the 16K ZX Spectrum but I am pretty sure there were releases for the C64 and possibly the Vic too.

I am uncertain as to the rights to these games, although they were both written in about '82.

Any ideas?

To Atari-Jess, yes I did do that and it worked and it looks very good. Thanks alot for that suggestion.

And I did send it to AtariAge so you should be seeing it pop up sometime soon.

Some people lately have been asking me, why War of the Worlds? Well the reason is because after seeing the movie I always felt it would have been perfect for Atari 2600. The sound effects of the movie are similar to Atari, the look of the ships looks like something from an Atari label, so I decided to use and make what I always felt they should of made.
