Uncle Duke
This story maybe un-important, but I just figured I would share this past early childhood trauma with you. Once when I was very little (about 4 or 5) I was at an arcade, and they had a bowling game, with a Trak-Ball. I dont remember what it was called, I was very small... But I wasnt even going to play the game. Actually I dont think I was allowed to play the game. I always remember being at Chuckie-Cheese and places like that but I always remember my parents saying, "Arcades are a waste of money!" So I was only allowed to play the games for tickets and stuff. So as a sad child, I would go up to games and... (really embarrassing) I would pretend I was playing the arcade game... So anyway, I was "playing" a bowling game and rolling the trak-ball thing around, and with a *snap* The flesh of my finger got jammed in the corner of the Trak-Ball, I shrieked and my finger bled a little, then I tried it again, another jam. I stayed clear of that for a while... So anyway, ever since then, no matter how much I try my fingers always get caught in those darn things! Even just recently I was playing Centipede at a Rolling Skating Rinc, and my finger got jammed AGAIN! Agh! Thats why I stay clear of those, but despite that... I still want to get a Trak-Ball for my VCS...

Lemmi
wimps what do you guys have tiny hands?
Adrian M
The arcade version of Missile Command (due to the weight and size of the trackball) has a greater tendency to do this (jamming flesh). I never had any major problems with the Centipede, Millipede, etc coin ops, though.

Albert
The worst Trak-Ball offender has to be Atari Football. That game could be brutal on your hands and was also very competitive so you'd have to learn to deal with the pain if you wanted to win. To quote from KLOV: quotePainfully sore palms and pinched fingers have rendered the hands of unseasoned players useless for days. I never really had a problem with Atari's later games, although I am sometimes wary to this day whenever I sit down to play a Trak-Ball game. ..Al

moycon
Its not that thier hands are too tiny Lemmi, Its that thier skin is too loose. Damn I hate loose skin!!!!
rasty
moycon: that's probably due to an excess of bologna sandwiches
moycon
Its when you stop eating the sandwiches that you have a problem. In fact my skins feelin a tad loose... Time to taunt'n it up a bit. *munch*
Cassidy Nolen
The larger track balls tended to wear the bearing shafts deeply after years of arcade abuse. I had an Atari Football table about two years ago that was really worn (aka, broken in if you are on ebay language!). Man, that thing was a monster. It would get so much play, and we all hated it. Ah, the joys of games. I had my college ring on one time, and it grabbed in between that and my finger. EEEWWWW was the blister. Good thing I am left handed. Have any of you guys had the pain and suffering of also, having to "pretend" to play those arcade games? Now in my opinion that is even worse than getting my finger jammed... Luckily now I learned to save my lunch money and search the washing machine and couches well... So I dont have that problem anymore... ((my parents...love them dearly, but they are extreme...Tight-Wads...))
ATARIPITBULL
I'm just happy that it was the skin on your hand that got caught in the roller ball and not the skin of some other place on your body in case you were doing something weird with the machine.
